The new generation is just around the corner and only a few months separate us from the launch date of the PlayStation 5. Certainly all of us are excited to see the device and the new features in addition to better performance and the most beautiful graphics, but the launch games play a big role in the success of each device and play a bigger role in showing its strength.

Sony previously stated in an interview with the Games Industry that the Playstation 5 will contain the best collection of games in the history of the platform! This statement is big and the Japanese giant certainly hasn't played all its cards but among these confirmed titles, many are eager to try Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Also, expect to see more third-party games in the coming months and don't forget Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart as you will be during the launch window and not on the first day.

Playstation 4

KillzoneShadowFall.jpg

In November 2013, which is seven years ago, the PlayStation 4 was released, which was a huge success for Sony despite its lack of first-party titles at launch. No one can deny the amount of great games on the device, but when it launched, there were only two campaigns that were critically acclaimed, Killzone Shadow Fall, and Knack.

  • Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
  • Battlefield 4
  • Blacklight Retribution
  • Call of Duty: Ghosts
  • Contrast
  • DC Universe Online
  • FIFA 14
  • Flower
  • Injustice: Gods Among Us - Ultimate Edition
  • Just Dance 2014
  • Killzone Shadow Fall - EXCLUSIVE
  • Knack - exclusive

  • NBA 2k14
  • Need for Speed Rivals
  • Resogun - exclusive

  • Super Motherload
  • Trine 2: Complete Story
  • Warframe

The amount of variety of games on the PlayStation 4 was one of the most important things that contributed to its success, as well as the much loved third-party games like Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed - will we see the same success with this generation?

PlayStation 3

Compared to the Playstation 4, I think the Playstation 3 games were significantly weaker than it and the Xbox 360 as well. This is what (and the high price) often led to the failure of the device compared to the Playstation 2 or Playstation 4. The most important first-party headlines on this generation were Resistance: Fall of Man from Insomniac Games .

  • Blast Factor
  • Call of Duty 3
  • Genji: Days of the Blade
  • Madden NFL 07
  • Marvel Ultimate Alliance
  • Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire
  • NBA 07
  • NBA 2K7
  • Need for Speed Carbon
  • Resistance: Fall of Man - exclusive
  • Ridge Racer 7 - Exclusive
  • Tony Hawk’s Project 8
  • Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07
  • Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom

PlayStation 2

The Playstation 1 achieved huge successes for Sony, but the biggest success in the company's history so far is the Playstation 2, as it is still the best-selling home device in history. Aside from the technical aspects, there were a lot of different titles at launch.

  • Armored Core 2
  • Dead or Alive 2: Hardcore
  • Dynasty Warriors 2
  • ESPN International Track and Field
  • ESPN X-Games Snowboarding
  • Eternal Ring
  • Evergrace
  • FantaVision
  • GunGriffon Blaze
  • Kessen
  • Madden NFL 2001
  • Midnight Club
  • Moto GP
  • NHL 2001
  • Orphen: Scion of Sorcery
  • Q-Ball Billiards Master
  • Ready 2 Rumble Boxing: Round 2
  • Ridge Racer V - Exclusive
  • Silent Scope
  • Smuggler’s Run
  • SSX
  • Street Fighter EX3
  • Summoner
  • Swing Away
  • Tekken Tag Tournament
  • TimeSplitters
  • Unreal Tournament
  • Wild Wild Racing
  • X-Squad

I will also not forget Microsoft's entry on the scene in the second generation of the Playstation, especially with the game Halo, which revolutionized the first-person shooter. Although the competition was fierce between the two platforms, the Playstation 2 was dominant and still is one of the favorite devices for many.
