Desde que se empezaron a diseñar consolas de videojuegos y máquinas arcade a inicios de los años 70 siempre se ha intentado llamar la atención de todo tipo de público, siendo los que más se adentraban a este mundo los adultos-jóvenes, sin embargo, hay cierto sector que siempre ha sido un poco complicado abarcar y es el de los niños, por tal motivo, múltiples desarrolladores desde cierto momento se dedicaron a realizar juegos didácticos en múltiples sistemas, como también plataformas destinadas a este rango de edad, una de esas consolas fue la V.Flash.
Since they began to design video game consoles and arcade machines in the early 70's, they have always tried to attract the attention of all types of audiences, being those who most entered this world the adults-young people, however, there is a certain sector that has always been a little complicated to cover and that is the children, for this reason, multiple developers from a certain time were dedicated to making educational games on multiple systems, as well as platforms for this age range, one of those consoles was the V.Flash.
La V.Flash es un sistema poco conocido dentro el mundo de los videojuegos debido a su público objetivo en esta industria, el cual era niños que tuvieran más de 5 años, además salió en un momento en donde otras consolas como la Nintendo Wii (su mayor competencia) tenían ese territorio totalmente apoderado, sin embargo, esta idea de crear una consola para dicho público proviene gracias a su antecesora, la V.Smile.
The V.Flash is a little known system in the world of video games due to its target audience in this industry, which was children over 5 years old, also came out at a time when other consoles like the Nintendo Wii (its biggest competitor) had that territory fully seized, however, this idea of creating a console for that audience comes thanks to its predecessor, the V.Smile.
VTech fue la empresa responsable de fabricar y desarrollar la V.Flash, lanzándola al mercado en el año 2007. Usa el CD-ROM para poder ejecutar los videojuegos, algo bastante justificable, ya que todos sus juegos eran del estilo educativo, sin embargo, su formato era de 12 cm de diámetro, es decir, eran más pequeños que un disco normal, estos venían recubiertos con un plástico (para protegerlos de rayaduras) con una pequeña abertura la cual servía para que el lector pudiera leerlos, un diseño muy similar al UMD de la Sony PSP.
VTech was the company responsible for manufacturing and developing the V.Flash, launching it to the market in 2007. It uses the CD-ROM to run video games, something quite justifiable, since all their games were educational style, however, its format was 12 cm in diameter, that is, they were smaller than a normal disk, these came covered with a plastic (to protect them from scratches) with a small opening which served for the reader to read them, a design very similar to the UMD of the Sony PSP.
Uno de los principales problemas que se enfrentó la V.Flash fue el desarrollo de juegos. Como método de marketing debían usar licencias de franquicias reconocidas, de esta forma llamarían la atención de los niños, padres y representantes, esto tuvo como consecuencia una fuerte inversión por parte de la empresa desarrolladora, obteniendo permisos para usar a varias franquicias como Cars, las princesas de Disney, Shrek, SpongeBob, Spiderman, entre otros.
One of the main problems faced by V.Flash was the development of games. As a marketing method they had to use licenses of recognized franchises, this way they would attract the attention of children, parents and representatives, this resulted in a strong investment by the developer company, obtaining permissions to use several franchises such as Cars, Disney princesses, Shrek, SpongeBob, Spiderman, among others.
A simple vista parece una consola atractiva para los niños, pero como se mencionó anteriormente, en ese momento ya existían otras que abarcaban ese mercado, un excelente ejemplo es la Nintendo Wii. Esto tuvo una gran consecuencia en las ventas de la V.Flash, llegando por poco a las 26.000 unidades, si a esto le sumamos el pago que hicieron a diferentes franquicias para sus juegos, el resultado fue terrible para la empresa VTech, recuperando apenas un 5% de la inversión.
At first glance it seems an attractive console for children, but as mentioned above, at that time there were already others that covered that market, an excellent example is the Nintendo Wii. This had a great consequence in the sales of the V.Flash, reaching just 26,000 units, if we add to this the payment they made to different franchises for their games, the result was terrible for the company VTech, recovering barely 5% of the investment.
Al pasar los años esta consola quedó en el olvido, convirtiéndose en una reliquia para los coleccionistas, pero debido a sus bajas ventas que tuvo en el pasado, su precio es altamente cotizado en el mercado, ya que no se consigue con facilidad, si eres una de las personas que busca adquirir una de estas consolas debes preparar muy bien tu billetera.
Over the years this console was forgotten, becoming a relic for collectors, but due to its low sales in the past, its price is highly valued in the market, since it is not easily available, if you are one of the people looking to acquire one of these consoles you should prepare your wallet very well.
La V.Flash fue en su momento un sistema interesante para los más pequeños del hogar, sin embargo, le tocó una generación donde ya ese mercado estaba tomado por otras compañías, causando que quede marcada como uno de los peores fracasos de la historia de los videojuegos.
The V.Flash was at the time an interesting system for the smallest of the home, however, it was played in a generation where that market was already taken by other companies, causing it to be marked as one of the worst failures in the history of video games.
