Retro Review - Pop'n TwinBee: Rainbow Bell Adventures

Undoubtedly one of my favorite genre of video games are the platformers, for several factors in which are: to be able to go through a series of scenarios with excellent decorations, the skill that we must have to overcome the hundreds of obstacles and the final enemies of each stage that have different types of attack mechanics and ways to eliminate them. The game I will talk about today belongs to the platform genre and even has certain elements of exploration, it is a game that is a sequel to another game of a completely different genre: shoot'em up, and although as I have said many times, this type of video games have never been my favorite, it is because its sequel, which completely changes its genre and I really liked it, maybe at some point I will play it, but in a few weeks.

Today's Retro Review is about: Pop'n TwinBee: Rainbow Bell Adventures.

I'm going to omit this time the section where I summarize the story and what the plot of this game is about, since, to be very honest, I didn't pay attention to it, so I'll directly talk about the graphic section.

Pop'n TwinBee: Rainbow Bell Adventures is a highly colorful game, it has an aura of a children's game, although I don't think it is at all. Graphically it is a game that stands out a lot at first glance, with very unique and original main character designs, and quite varied and well composed enemy designs. The animations are optimal and gives a lot of personality to each playable character, in this case there are 3: TwinBee, WinBee and GwinBee, each of them having distinctive animations between them. In some occasions it will remind us of the classic Sonic game, since in terms of animation and the movement of the characters is quite similar, but different enough to not be considered a "copy", as they are totally different games.

The scenarios are very well represented, they are quite unique and where a very varied and striking color palette stands out much more, in addition to the fact that the backgrounds of the scenarios present decorations and in some of them, visual effects that give it enough depth and charisma, and with certain details that manage to create a set of outstanding scenarios.

The soundtrack is also of good quality, with melodies according to the type of game that Pop'n TwinBee: Rainbow Bell Adventures is, and that fit very well with the situations and scenarios that we are going to go through along this colorful adventure. In general terms, we will be able to listen to the typical melodies of the games of this style, that is to say, music with very cheerful rhythms that motivate us to advance at great speed. The sound effects are excellent, they are very varied and contribute a lot to the atmosphere of the scenarios, besides adding much more personality to the main characters.

Pop'n TwinBee: Rainbow Bell Adventures is a very entertaining adventure and platform game, and it also has some exploration elements, which makes it even more fun because of this factor. It has certain similarities with the classic Sonic games, especially in the scenarios, which have the classic shape of the blue hedgehog games and in the way our characters run when they reach a certain speed, but beyond that, it is a game original enough to stand out on its own.

The game has 3 main characters, whose controls are quite similar, but at the same time with certain differences, so we can choose our favorite depending on the skills that are of our preference. As I have already mentioned the mechanics and controls of the main characters are very simple and easy to learn and in addition to the characteristic attacks of each character, they also have a jetpack that allows us to move with greater speed to some point of the stage that we choose.

The platforming sections are very well implemented and do not pose an extremely difficult challenge, but enough to not be a boring game in that aspect, not an extremely difficult game, but not so easy either, it is very well balanced with respect to that aspect.

Pop'n TwinBee: Rainbow Bell Adventures is an excellent game, visually beautiful and eye-catching, and playably simple but quite entertaining and enjoyable.
