Lo primero que hay que decir es que Wild Rift no es una simple copia de League of Legends, sino que es un juego independiente que guarda muchas diferencias respecto a la versión original. Se trata de una obra con identidad propia, diseñada para aprovechar las características del móvil y ofrecer una experiencia similar, pero no idéntica, a la de PC. El objetivo es que los veteranos de League of Legends puedan saltar al juego rápidamente, pero también que los nuevos jugadores no se sientan abrumados por la complejidad del juego original.
Una de las diferencias más evidentes entre Wild Rift y la versión de PC es el número de campeones disponibles. Mientras que en League of Legends hay más de 160 campeones, en Wild Rift por ahora solo hay poco más de 100. Riot Games ha prometido añadir más campeones poco a poco, y van intentando al rededor de dos campeones por mes, pero es posible que no todos los campeones de League of Legends acaben en Wild Rift, además de que se baraja la idea de tener campeones exclusivos de la versión para móviles.
