Game Review: Doom Eternal (2020)

What's up, you bunch of digital degenerates? Today, I'm going to be going over the sequel to one of the best video game remakes of all time, Doom Eternal. Doom Eternal was made by ID Software, the same company that has made all of the other Doom games plus much more, and was published by Bethesda. Now, the Doom game that was released in 2016 was a huge hit when it dropped. So, I'm sure most people going in with this one were hoping that it would be at least as good if maybe a little bit better. And, I can definitely say that Doom Eternal lives up to that and is improved in just about every single way from the first game.

Doom Eternal is a game that will make you feel like a masculine ghost has possessed you, like you've been butt chugging steroids from some shady dude in the gym locker room. As soon as you turn on the game and hear the phenomenal soundtrack from Mick Gordon, you'll realize you're about to experience some high octane, dick pounding action. Honestly, the pacing of this game is absolutely relentless. You will be smashing demon ass pretty much non fucking stop when you start playing, And, that's not an over exaggeration at all, this game is non stop action that forces you to be fully aggressive and keep moving to stay alive. It's honestly a very unique/refreshing type of gaming experience, it's hard to really compare it to any other FPS game around right now.

The gameplay is crisp and silky smooth with the movement and gunplay, and also so much more extensive than the previous game as far as the mechanics go. There's tons of weapon variety with total different purposes to help you get around specific enemy types. You can expect to juggle through your guns through pretty much every fight to work around whatever is challenging you at that specific moment. It also requires a lot of switching so you can turn enemies into a loot piƱata of armor shards and ammo, There's definitely more strategy and depth to the shooting mechanics, but, man, everything just flows so nicely and works so well together.

A really fun part of the game are the slayer gates, which are an optional part of the game that is super challenging. Beating these unlocks keys for you to obtain some powerful weapons, so long as you get enough of them. Entering these gates is basically like being hit with waves of hell smoked meat. You will up against hordes of hundreds to thousands of demons constantly trying to rip into your asshole. These demons range from the piss pants demon of a man who once used nord VPN to watch Netflix in another country and sinned against the digital gods, to gigantic, mythological looking monstrosities. You'll probably get fucked nice and good here on the harder difficulties, but you'll do it with a smile on your face from the the high movement action that works so well thanks to the well designed arena style maps.

The games narrative is actually pretty good, nothing groundbreaking or insanely impressive, but pretty entertaining none the less. It gives you a good look into Doom Guy and how cool he is, while also being a looming threat of a figure for the creatures in this world. I'm not gonna go into the narrative really since this isn't that old of a game, but it's pretty damn decent. I mentioned the soundtrack earlier on, and let me touch on that again. The music in this game is an absolute fucking banger. Especially if you're into harder music like I am, in particular Djent. Mick Gordon did an awesome job with the music for this game, and it is just absolutely fucking metal. His music is the perfect match for the gameplay here. Even if you aren't a metal/rock fan, I feel like you'll enjoy the tunes and think it's a solid match up.

If I had to say anything negative about this game, it would be that I think the multiplayer portion of the game is very sub par. Not terrible, but mediocre for sure. Especially compared to the campaign mode of the game. I think they made a huge mistake not making the multiplayer an arena shooter style, as the games gun mechanics and maps would work perfectly for that. Instead, you get a 1v2 mode where you fight off hordes of enemies and equip yourself with items like in the campaign, but two of the demons are human controlled trying to twist your nipples. To win the game as the slayer, you have to kill both of them before the timer runs out. I dunno, it just didn't work for me at all and felt like a bit of a waste of resources. You'll definitely not be wanting to boot this game up for the multiplayer gameplay, I'll just leave it at that.

Everything else in the game is just heaps of fun. Walking around the world and checking everything out, looking for secrets is a fun time, and just shitting all over anything that even looks at your thicc ass the wrong way. The campaign is pretty damn long as well, I'd say it will take you around 20-21 hours to finish it all the way through. There's a lot of replaybility to this game since the gameplay doesn't get old very fast, and the higher difficulties make it feel like a much different beast the higher you go. You'll definitely be getting your moneys worth no matter what price point you grab this game at.

Overall, I really enjoyed Doom Eternal and would highly recommend it. There's really not much to say in terms of negative stuff for the game, it's fucking great. The multiplayer isn't the best, but I don't think anyone reading this probably gives much of a shit about that. While it doesn't look like we'll be getting a trilogy out of this series with what I've heard about the recent DLC's, I'm hoping maybe in the future we could get a Doom 3 Remake/Reboot, as I always had a soft spot in my heart for that game. But, uh, yeah. Doom and Doom Eternal are fucking great. Go try them out, or I'll have to chew ass and kick bubblegum. And, I'm all out of gum, pussy.

Until next time doods!

Later!
