On Investing A Few Hundred Dollars Into Hive Games

Investing a few hundred dollars into a handful of Hive based games is far from being significant. Many players have spent thousands to quickly boost their competitive ranking.

Starting moderately, while learning the nuances of each game, seems like a reasonable long-term approach for someone just getting started within the blockchain based gaming ecosystem.

Calling it an investment is the best choice of words!

As the popularity of Hive gaming continues to surge, the chance to profit from such an investment in the coming years presents a significant opportunity for those who are willing to stick it out.

Let's take a look at five popular Hive based games for consideration:

1. Splinterlands

The granddaddy of them all…
Splinterlands stands as the most significant game on the Hive blockchain.

Starting small in May of 2018, Splinterlands has grown and developed into an NFT juggernaut. The @splinterlands founders and community have taken the game beyond the original Hive network, expanding onto the Ethereum, Wax, and Binance blockchains, among a few others.

With the recent release of the Splinterlands SPS governance token, popularity has surged and the valuation of its assets has made the crypto world take notice.

Getting started is as simple as buying a Summoner's Spellbook for $10 which gives you access to ranked battles and tournaments, where prizes include the in-game currency 'DEC' and reward cards for completing daily quests.

Since there are no card packs available in game right now, purchasing them along with individual cards will have to be done on the aftermarkets such as PeakMonsters. However, this can be quite pricey. Renting is usually the best option for new players. A quality deck can be rented for about $30 a month.

Good luck!

2. CryptoBrewMaster

Brewing your own beer in real life can often be rewarding and delicious. Why not take that same principle online while making a bit of profit along the way?

Welcome to CryptoBrewMaster!

Getting started for free is fairly simple. Just complete a handful of daily quests to receive ingredients for brewing your beer. Brewing 2 to 3 beers each week can be done by carefully choosing which quests to complete.

Moving beyond the basics requires a bit more consideration. After all, drinking beer at the pub to increase your energy rate can quickly eat away at your in-game earnings.

Perhaps the best first investment would be to upgrade your brewing house to increase the chance of creating a higher quality beer to sell at the pub. Purchasing the right brewing equipment can unlock staff and item slots to either increase the efficiency, reduce brewing time, or cut down on equipment restore costs.

Items can be found for sale at the marketplace using the @cryptobrewmaster in-game currency 'CBM'. Based on current value, a decent brewery with some staff and item slots will come in at around $25-$30.

Drink up!

3. RisingStar

One of the most passive, yet highly addicting games is RisingStar!

The concept is simple: work your way up from humble street busker to international rock star.

Completing as many missions as possible is at the heart of RisingStar. Missions range from five minutes up to several hours. At then end of each mission you'll receive both experience points to level up, and the in-game currency 'Starbits' which can be used to purchase cards and card packs.

Getting started can be done for free, but you'll want to purchase at least one card pack with Hive in order to verify your account. The developers of @risingstargame take bots and multiple accounts seriously, which is refreshing to see.

At the moment, you can get a special 12 pack set for 50 Hive which is about $30 as of this writing.

One significant tip to remember:
Start taking music lessons as soon as you can! This will help lower your Ego level and increase your earnings.
Having too much Ego can be a frustrating experience. :)

Rock on!

4. DCrops

Another passive game which you really only need to check once a day is DCrops.

The founders of @dcrops have created a simple farm simulation game where you plant seeds onto your farmland, harvest your crops after a set number of days, and sell them for reward shares which are paid out at the end of each season.

DCrops operates with the four seasons of spring, summer, fall, and winter. Each season lasts fifteen days over which you'll want to harvest and sell as many crops as possible. Payout arrives when the season finishes based on the number of shares you have in the reward pool. The in-game currency uses the 'crop' token which can be traded on Hive-engine.

It's important to note that not all seeds in your inventory can be planted every season. Each seed has unique characteristics such as season, growing time, and production ability.

So, you'll want to have a wide selection of land and seed cards!

Purchasing a number of cards packs will be essential to get started on the right path. Each pack costs 4 Hive.
Consider investing into 10-20 packs as a beginner, and then use your crop earnings at the end of the season to purchase more. The approximate total would be $20-$40.

Get growing!

5. DCity

Underneath the simple exterior of this city simulation game lies a lot nuance and complexity.

DCity features an elected government which makes financial decisions that affect the whole user base for the length of the term. There is a hive swap liquidity pool for easily transffering your hive to and from the in-game currency 'sim'. Ranking rewards, technology discovery, auctions, and events are just some of the other parts which make this city move.

The game play is straightforward:

Collect as many cards as possible to develop both the population and industries with your city.
Cards can be purchased on the DCity market or as random cards from the second and third editions.

Since the first edition cards are only available in the market, it's recommended to pick up a few important ones first and foremost. The apartment, basic home, and luxury home will be essential for adding people into a city. The police station, gym, and cinema will be needed to help reduce crime.

Second and third edition random cards can then be purchased. $40 is a reasonable investment to get started. This will have you earning a daily sim income which you can use for more cards, or cash out to hive-engine.

Quick tip: it's better to have more people (unemployed) than there are worker slots to fill in order to active all your cards and collect the most sim earnings on each.

Start Building!

A Long Term Approach

When investing into any hive based game it may be best to take a long term approach.

Although the current popularity and valuation of Hive and the games built onto the platform are at remarkable highs right now, the growth is bound the ebb and flow. However, this is all still just 'ground floor'.

Consider this:
Do you find the game enjoyable and fun to play in it's current form? And, most importantly...
Would you still want to be playing the game two years from now if it continues to develop?

If so… then let's get on board together and have fun with our investments. :)

Happy gaming!

Michael
