A Classic Ressurected

September 23, 2021. That's the official release date of Diablo 2: Ressurected. For long time gamers Diablo 2 doesn't really need an introduction.

It's a timeless classic that gamers around the world loved. Diablo 2 was a game that many us, including myself played countless times during our childhood.

So when Blizzard announced that they're going to release a remaster of the beloved game, a lot of people, including yours truly, become really excited.

And in all honesty, no one can blame us for it. Countless older games had been remastered (some of which were successful, so were not) over the years.

And yet, Diablo 2, one of the most popular game of all time, took decades and countless fan request before Blizzard decided to give the fans what they wanted.

The Controversy

The early stage of the development of Diablo 2: Ressurected was plague with controversies. This is mostly due to some design decisions made by Blizzard and Vicarious Visions.

Some of the controversy was mostly centered to the designs of the female characters: The Amazon, Assassin, and Sorceress.

For example, the outfits of the three aforementioned characters were altered to make it less revealing than the original. Assassin not showing legs, the Sorceress losing the under boob and so on.

The issue with the outfit, although displeases some of the fans, wasn't really that much of a big deal. But to make the Amazon to look like a man was crossing the line.

I mean, let's be honest here. One of the reason for the popularity of the Amazon class was her looks. To change her looks and make her THAT unattractive is a complete travesty.

Thankfully though the developers listened and fixed the issue.

Now, although the changes in the character design was controversial, it's nothing compared to biggest controversy that the game is facing: The removal of TCP/IP multiplayer.

Yes, Blizzard decided that the TCP/IP multiplayer was too much of a security risk and decided to remove it from the game.

I understand why Blizzard did it but agreeing to their decision is a different matter altogether.

Although Diablo 2 is mainly a single player game, the multiplayer feature was also an integral part of the original game. If it was a human body, removing the TCP/IP multiplayer was like removing one of the limbs.

Personally though, I don't really mind that much as I always prefer single player over multiplayer but for other gamers that might not be the case.

That said, Blizzard could still change their decision and might re-implement TCP/IP multiplayer. Of course, they could also not care about it. Honestly, anything could happen at this point of time.

Either way, all that matters to me is that I could play one of my favorite games of all time with improved graphics and gameplay element.

How about you? Are you excited about the remaster?
