Howdy Gamers
Last week this interesting title popped up on Steam,I believe it is also available on PS4 and Switch.
The Steam version was £15.49, the trailer video enticed me enough to add it to my ever growing list of games,at this rate I'm going to have to become a full time gamer to keep up with everything I am already playing and all the amazing upcoming titles.
In any case this game deserves to be talked about here.I haven't ever played a game quite like it.
I dived right into it knowing nothing about the title other than you pick different units and battle an opposing team.
In this video we cover the first few introduction campaign levels progressing from the stone age to the farming age.I then jump into the Halloween/Horror Spooky themed Campaign and end the video with a massive free for all in an Ice themed Sandbox game where we are free to let our imaginations go wild.
So lets start buy looking at the basics of the game.In essence its quite simple , each stage gives you a set amount of money to spend building an army to defeat the opposing teams army.
In this first instance the Blue team has 6 stone age clubber's.We have 600 coins to spend building our little stone age army....ok I guess it should be easy enough to defeat 6 cavemen with clubs...
If you look at the bottom of the screen you see we can choose from 3 different units here, clubbers, protectors or spear throwers...
I spent 580 of my 600 coins on 4 clubbers at 70 coins each , 2 protectors costing 80 each and 2 spear throwers costing 120 each...
Once you have built your army we hit the crossed swords icon to begin the battle.Once battle commences we sit and watch the action unfold, each unit has its own AI and will do its own thing...
As soon as they are in range the spear throwers take out 2 of the blue teams clubbers...
The spear throwers need some time to reload and are completely defenseless while reloading ,thankfully the remaining 4 blue cavemen are occupied by my clubbers and protectors...
This gave the spear guys some time to reload and take out 2 more clubbers...
2 more down and another clubber falls as a protector smashes him to the ground with a shield..
One clubber to go,so far I have lost one clubber and one protector....the remaining blue teams cave man gets lucky and avoids both of the spear throwers on their next reload!
The last blue cave man standing takes a club to the face and the match is over...
Blue team defeated! Only one match and i'm already hooked on the games simplistic nature...The plastince look to the character models works well for this kind of game. Each unit has its own voice and as the melee ensues we are treated to the sounds and grunts of battle.Awesome stuff!
I played a few more levels of the introduction campaign.I won't cover each match here as it would be more enjoyable to watch them in the video above. What I will do here is highlight some of the new units that get added as the matches progress in difficulty.
The next 2 units added on the stone age roster are stone throwers and bone mages..
Stone throwers can take out the protectors pretty quickly...
Bone mages do a magical earthquake attack that sends opponents flying, a few of them together can do alot of damage...
Next up in the stone age progression we have chieftains who have more hp than clubbers and do more damage...
And lastly the most powerful unit in the stone age army is the mighty mammoth which can take out a small army of farmers on its own....
Ok so now we have seen all the units the stone age has to offer lets look at all the different types of armies in the game.
After the tribal cavemen comes the age of the farmer...
Then we have The Medieval era..
Next up is The Ancient era...
Then The Vikings..
Then The Asian themed Dynasty Era...
Next up we have The Renaissance
Then Pirates
Next up is the spooky horror theme
The The Wild West
There are legacy units which need to be unlocked by completing the various campaigns.I am looking forward to seeing what these elite mystery units are.
We have a set of Good Aligned units...
A set of Evil aligned units
And lastly another set of unlockable Elite units gained from completing campaigns.
I took the above screen shots in Sandbox mode where you are free to combine all the different eras to create a wonderful melee of carnage....
Its easy to spend hours just messing around in sandbox checking out all the different units and seeing how well they will do against each other...
As for the Campaigns I was torn between which one to start first,I was tempted by the pirate and wild west settings and eventually choose to check out the Spooky campaign.
Each battle is increasingly difficult, the first one in the Spooky campaign to really give me difficulty in the video above was an army of Vampires in the Blood campaign and then Vampires and Sword Casters in War.I must have tried at least half a dozens times before eventually overpowering them with 2 Viking Jarls and a Pirate queen...
The Spooky Campaign did provide me with some nice screenshots,I likely will try and finish this one before moving on to one of the others.
The game is perfect for making videos that are highly watchable...ever wondered how and army of Samurais and Ninjas would fare against an undead army of Vampires and Skeleton warriors? Now you can find out exactly how that would play out :)
In conclusion I find the game highly addictive,it has that one more go feeling about it especially when you come up against a hard battle, making tweeks to your army until you finally get the right set up is pretty satisfying.
For the low price of £15.49 I know I will get many hours of entertainment out of this title.
