Today I picked up Oddworld -Soulstorm which is a reimagining of the 1998 Game Abe's Exoddus for the original playstation.
The story in Soulstorm is a continuation of the story in 2014's Oddworld New and Tasty which I have yet to play.I figured since this is the newest one and a reimagining of one of my favorite PS1 games I should start with this title.
So lets jump right in...
Our story begins with a train hurtling through a desert area as some Slig gunners pursue it...
"Faster Alf!We gotta Go faster!"
"Going fast as I can Toby.Fast as I can!"
"Alf I think you need to see this"
"Its the end of the line Alf!"
"Alf,what are we gonna do?"
"Abe! Open up!Open up.Abe!Abe!"
After that lengthy (11 mins+!) awesome opening cinematic we finally find ourselves in control of Abe.Our goal here is to escape the burning cave...
Along the way we find story stones that explain different mechanics of the game.
The game is a side scrolling platformer so we are running, jumping avoiding falling objects and machine gun fire from the sliggs.
Some of the burning areas need to be extinguished with water bottles..
And some walls need to be set on fire to clear the way and then extinguished so we can pass
The level design is pretty epic especially for a first level.
I managed to clear the stage in 21 mins 25 secs
We get free of the burning cave and meet the Mudokan from the opening scene that is carrying some glowing artifact.
He gives us the artifact before dying and its on to stage 2 The Ruins...
Continued in Part 2 - The Ruins....
