Three Tune Tuesday Week 156, Happy 3 Year Anniversary TTT!

Happy three year anniversary to #threetunetuesday ! I've been participating for quite some time now and it's a lot of fun. First off I want to say thank you @ablaze for starting and continuing to sponsor this weekly event. It's officially week 156, so I thought I might do something different. Last week I did the combo with #nintiesfriday which turned out really well, when I found the silver floppy disc coin I shared last week I also came across this silver Kiss coin. How many bands have a their own commemorative coin produced by any country?

From the island nation of Niue the answer to that one is two, Kiss and Aerosmith. Since the Kiss one looked cooler I had to go with Kiss today. Can you believe that is solid silver that's been colorized? They made non color version too, but this one was just weird enough that I had to share it! Am I a die hard fan of the band? No, but they have some great songs and are one of the most influential rock bands of all time.

About the coin:

From numista.com

Do I own one of these? No. I wouldn't mind owing one if the price were right, now it's listed at $45 on APMEX which is a little more than I would pay because let's face it, I'm not a die hard Kiss fan. But it's one of those coins that might appreciate with time, but in time will Kiss fade into anonymity or remain rock icons? They finally called it quits last year so it may be at it's high point now and will drop down slowly over the next fifty years. Who knows? Then again silver prices at that point might be $200 an ounce so it might be win either way...

Anyway, onto to the music. Kiss was a band formed in New York City in 1973 by Gene Simmons, Paul Stanly, Ace Frehly and Peter Criss. What set them apart was the makeup, costumes, and the hard rock sound. They hit mainstream success when they released "Rock and Roll All Nite" in 1975. They were such a big band that a young Eddie Van Halen begged Gene Simmons to let him join Kiss, but he turned him down. HIs reason being that because Van Halen's skills were just too good to be playing Kiss songs. He advised him to stick with his band fronted by David Lee Roth, and not long after Van Halen became one of the biggest bands of all time. Simmons called that one right!

They had continued success into the 1980's and lost the face paint in 1983 to fit better in the 1980's rock scene. Throughout the late 80's they lost a lot of their following and Criss and Frehley left the band. A reunion tour in 1996 brought them back th the mainstream with a return of the makeup and costumes. In 2014 they were inducted into the the Rock Hall of Fame and they remained a popular touring band until they retired last year.

First up we'll start off with "Rock And Roll All Nite":

Next in the lineup well be their 1983 mega hit done without the makeup, "Lick It Up":

And to complete the trio let's go with another classic, "Detroit Rock City":

They were quite a band weren't they? That will just about do it for my edition of #threetunetuesday . I hope you enjoyed it and the silver Kiss coin as well. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave them below, have a great Tuesday!
