Sunday Roast on a Monday

Roast Beef, Beans and roast potatoes

Since my son is leaving at the end of the week for Amsterdam, we decided to make a roast for him.

The kids went out and bought a piece of Topside beef and we made the recipe given to me by my late mother many years ago.

Ingredients - for cooking in a slow cooker:

500g of beef for roasting (can be topside, sirloin, flank or any other cuts)
3 Onions
1 small bottle of Rose Wine
Seasoning and Gravy powder
Frozen Beans
4 Potatoes

This is how simple it is and you will be amazed at how tasty the meat and gravy are.
The meat becomes more tender as distance from hoof and horn increases - but because this is a slow cooked meal, the cheaper cuts of meat are perfect.

In a frying pan, add a little olive oil and brown the piece of meat on all sides. Add to the slow cooker and add sliced onions. Season with origanum, pink salt, freshly ground black pepper. Add a half of the bottle of rose wine and cook on high for 4 hours. After 3 hours you can add some Bisto gravy powder to thicken the sauce and add the balance of the Rose Wine.

Roast the potatoes so that they are ready to serve with frozen or fresh beans.

Enjoy!!
