The Hịịhịị Masquerade Painting

Hello everyone, I am happy to share this amazing painting with you. This painting shows the beautiful culture of the Ehugbo people in Afikpo North, Ebonyi state, Nigeria.
In the painting, I immersed myself in the creative process of depicting the fine and significant costumes worn by the masquerade.

Title: Hịịhịị
Medium: Oil colour on canvas
Size: 2x3 ft

The Hịịhịị masquerade is used to initiate children into the Ogo cult and it is classified under the Lugulu masquerade.
He is dressed fully with ire nkwu, wears okpu ebuba on his head and doesn't wear a mask but uses something called ugbu to cover his face, this means that the masquerade is not fully initiated into the Ogo cult.
He wears okpukpu oosu as bracelet which is made from elephant tusk.
