What's Buzzing Friends...
Lincoln, Lincoln, have been thinking, what the heck, you were a wrestler???
Abraham Lincoln, he was the 16th President of the United States, and serve in office from 1861 until his unfortunate assassination in 1865. There lots of stories that surround this individual, from his ability at being a statesman, skilled public speaker, an accomplished writer.
One story that does not get a lot of attention however is that he was also skilled wrestler. That is correct, he was known in his hometown of New Salem, Illinois as an accomplished wrestler. But this is not the flamboyant showmanship we see in the WWF, or the skillful fighting of the Lucha libre, back in the day wrestlers provided more feats of strength, and the occasional bout with another individual. However again unlike today's glitz and glam and televised broadcasts, these wrestling matches were pretty much witnessed by hands full of townsfolk.
Later on in his political career his wrestling background was brought up in various debates, and this story.... legend grew and grew. It is said that he wrestled over 300 matches and only lost once.
Whether this is true, and to what extent it is factual is up for debate, however he was a actual wrestler when he was a youth, and then rose in political power to become the 16th President of the United States. That's awesome!
It's an interesting story, that no matter where you start in life, you could become anything you put your mind to it. Something else you could do the put your mind to it, is read this week's updates from D.Buzz!
