Making a sterling silver skateboard from scratch

So @knowhow92 tasked me with making something for his #skatehive competition so I knew what to make and by no means am I professional silver Smith but I do like to dabble.

I started off by weighing what I had and I had just under 40 grams, I put it into the furnace and set it at 1100°c.

I warmed the ingot mould up with a blow torch and poured in the silver, as you can see it is only a small block at the moment not much bigger than a half dollar.

This is where the work starts with rolling the silver into the skateboard shape and this did take a while.

I had to anneal the silver quite a few times as going through a rolling mill work hardens the silver.

As you can see the silver is growing in length.

Once I got it to the desired length I got a marker and drew a semi circle and cut it out and filed it down.

Now it is starting to look like a deck.

I next market and drilled the holes needed.

I put the silver through the roller one last time to give it a textured finish, this replicated the grip tape.

Next thing was to stamp and polish the silver.

Here is what I stamped on the bottom of the deck.

I wanted to give the grip tape a better finish so I decided to tone it instead of painting it and I used liver of sulphur.

I washed off the liver of sulphur and gave it a final polish under Neath.
