2023 1oz Silver Somalian Leopard

I'm a sucker for low mintage coins and rounds. A lot of the smaller countries who don't have the space, budget, etc., to create and run their own mint will contract with Scottsdale Mint. When I saw this silver leopard and the detail they put into it, I knew I needed to grab one!

Obverse

This is technically the obverse. I admire simplicity of the Somali Republic's coat of arms. It's elegant yet not overly complex. Too many coat of arms designs are so intricate and detailed that they don't look great on coins, because the details get lost.

The leopard on either side of the shield, atop a couple of spears, with a banner woven around them and what looks like palm leaves in the background, is great. Detailed, yet simple enough you can make out the details on the leaves.

Reverse

The level of detail here is great! From the spots being recrssed in spots to give it depth and darkness when the light hits it, to the individual blades of grass, this design is a winner!

I like that they have it posing as if it's mid-hunt, stalking its prey. I prefer when mints make their designs look like there's action to them. It makes them seem less "flat."

Specifications
Purity: .9999
Weight: 1 Troy ounce
Mintage: 30,000 (Source)

I paid $28.95 for this coin, which isn't bad at all. Scottsdale Mint always does a great job with the designs and quality. It's not technically a proof, but it is proof-like. If you're on the fence, don't hesitate and but one!
