Death and Maiden, Franz Schubert
Hola amigos de Hive como están? Espero que todos hayan tenido un bonito sábado, por mi parte el día de hoy estuve estudiando un poco de piano, y he querido registrarlo en video y compartirles mi progreso. El día de hoy, estoy tocando una reducción del cuarteto de cuerdas #14 de Franz Schubert. Este cuarteto es uno de mis favoritos y siempre había querido estudiarlo en el piano. Ojo yo no soy pianista, así que mis amigos pianistas que me están leyendo me disculpan mis errores de técnica.
Hello friends of Hive how are you? I hope you all had a nice Saturday, I was studying some piano today, and I wanted to record it on video and share my progress with you. Today, I am playing a reduction of Franz Schubert's #14 string quartet. This quartet is one of my favorites and I have always wanted to study it on the piano. I am not a pianist, so my pianist friends who are reading me apologize for my technical errors.
Historia de la obra/ History of the artwork
La obra la muerte y la doncella cuarteto para cuerdas del compositor Alemán Franz Schubert, esta escrito para dos violines, viola y cello. Dicha obra esta compuesta en la tonalidad de Re menor y es el cuarteto número 14 del compositor.
Esta compuesta de 4 movimientos:
1- Allegro
2- Andante con Moto (que es el que se está tocando)
3- Scherzo- allegro molto- Trio
4- Presto
The work Death and the Maiden String Quartet by the German composer Franz Schubert, is written for two violins, viola and cello. This work is composed in the key of D minor and is the composer's 14th quartet.
It is composed of 4 movements:
1- Allegro
2- Andante con Moto (which is the one being played)
3- Scherzo- allegro molto- Trio
4- Presto
El tema principal de esta pieza, Schubert se basó en unos de sus lieds (canción, en este caso para piano y voz) La Muerte y la Doncella D.531 con texto de Matthias Claudius, y dicho tema esta incluido en el segundo movimiento.
La historia que cuenta Schubert con esta melodía es la de una joven moribunda que esta presenciando la muerte, y ella al ser joven no quiere entregarse a ella, y a medida que va avanzando la obra, la muerte seduce a la bella doncella para llevársela en su brazos. Schubert en estos momentos de su vida, estaba en una etapa muy difícil de su sífilis, y se presume que a través de este lied y cuarteto expresaba su miedo y rechazo a la muerte, que inevitablemente se lo llevaría a la edad temprana de 31 años, dejando un legado inmenso de obras corales, vocales, sinfónicas, solistas, pianísticas y de cámara que alcanza la cifra de más de 600 obras.

La Doncella:
"¡Se acabó! ¡Ay, ya se acabó!
¡Vete, hombre salvaje de hueso!
Todavía soy joven. ¡Vete, por favor!
Y no me molestes."
La muerte:
"¡Dame la mano, bella y tierna forma!
Soy un amigo, no vengo a castigar.
¡Ánimo! No soy un salvaje.
Dormirás suavemente en mis brazos".
The main theme of this piece, Schubert was based on one of his lieds (song, in this case for piano and voice) Death and the Maiden D.531 with text by Matthias Claudius, and this theme is included in the second movement.
The story that Schubert tells with this melody is that of a dying young woman who is witnessing death, and she, being young, does not want to give herself to it, and as the work progresses, death seduces the beautiful maiden to take her in his arms. Schubert, at this time in his life, was in a very difficult stage of his syphilis, and it is presumed that through this lied and quartet he expressed his fear and rejection of death, which would inevitably take him at the early age of 31, leaving an immense legacy of choral, vocal, symphonic, soloist, piano and chamber works that reaches the figure of more than 600 works.
