Mi nombre es Paola De Andrade, tengo treinta años y escribir es mi pasión. Me dedico a la escritura de obras teatrales, guiones audiovisuales y poesía, también traduzco y corrijo textos (proofreading). Llegué a Hive Blog por recomendación de mi amigo y cómplice artístico, @nel.alex, y estoy muy entusiasmada de poder ser parte de esta comunidad y compartir mi contenido con ustedes.
My name is Paola De Andrade, I’m 30 years old and writing is my passion. I write plays, screenplays, poetry, and I also translate and proofread. I came to Hive Blog because my friend and partner in crime, @nel.alex, told me about the awesomeness of this platform. I’m very excited to be part of this community and to share my content with you.
Nací en la ciudad de Los Teques, estado Miranda, Venezuela. Donde crecí rodeada de rocío, niebla, helechos, árnicas, Bidens alba, calas, cayenas, el canto de guacharacas y cristofué.
I was born in Los Teques, Miranda, Venezuela. Where I grew up surrounded by dew, mist, ferns, arnica, Bidens alba, calla lilies, cayenne flowers, and guacharaca’s and great kiskadee’s singing.
Actualmente vivo con mi mamá, su esposo y nuestra mascota, Loreto, un loro real amazónico de 33 años de edad, que le perteneció a mi abuela, quien aún vive, y tiene viviendo con nosotros más de quince años.
Currently, I live with my mom, her partner and our pet, Loreto, a 33 years old yellow-crowned amazon parrot. Loreto used to belong to my grandmother, who’s still alive, and he has been living with us for more than fifteen years.
Me considero una persona muy entusiasta, disfruto las actividades al aire libre y creo en el aspecto lúdico de la vida. Me encantan las artes en todas sus formas. Mis principales intereses son el Teatro, el cine, la música y la literatura. Creo en la máxima de “El Arte salva”, y sueño con un día ser dueña de mi propio teatro o formar parte de la directiva de una sala o teatro reconocido.
I consider myself as a very enthusiastic person, I enjoy outdoors activities and I believe in the playful aspect of live. I love all art forms. My major interests are Theater, cinema and literature. For me, Art saves, and it is my dream to own my own theater or to be part of a renowned theater's directive.
Mi interés por las artes se dio a temprana edad. Practiqué artes marciales desde los nueve años y me enamoré del teatro hace más de doce años atrás. Desde entonces, he venido formándome realizando diversos cursos y talleres en el área de guión, dramaturgia, dirección teatral, producción teatral, apreciación cinematográfica, poesía y escritura creativa. Ingresé a la Universidad Nacional Experimental de las Artes (Unearte) en 2015 y obtuve la Licenciatura en Teatro en 2020, en la primera promoción de la Unearte en tiempos de pandemia. Asimismo, realicé un Diplomado en Escritura de Textos teatrales en 2018 en la misma casa de estudios.
My interest in arts began at an early age. I have been practicing martial arts since I was nine years old and fell in love with theater more than twelve years ago. Since then, I have been studying by taking various courses and workshops on screentwriting, playwriting, directing, theater production, film appreciation, poetry and creative writing. I entered the National Experimental University of the Arts (Unearte) in 2015 and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Theater in 2020, in the first class to graduate during the pandemic. I also did a Diploma in playwriting at the same university in 2018.
En cuanto a mis gustos, mis autores favoritos son Eurípides, Aristófanes, Shakespeare, Molière, Chéjov, Strindberg, Ibsen, Beckett, Sartre, Buero Vallejo, Valle-Inclán, José Gabriel Núñez, Rodolfo Santana, Isaac Chocrón, Miguel Otero Silva y Rafael Cadenas, entre otros. Por otro lado, mis directores de cine favoritos son Jean-Pierre Jeunet, David Fincher, Yorgos Lanthimos, Wes Anderson, Zhang Yimou, Bong Joon-ho, Darren Aronofsky, Satoshi Kon y Hayao Miyazaki, entre otros.

Para mi agrado, he producido y participado de diversas actividades artísticas en Los Teques y Caracas, principalmente en el área poética. Fui cofundadora del Movimiento de Jóvenes Creadores de Los Altos Mirandinos, actualmente llamado Habitantes de la calima, con el que tuve la dicha de organizar más de trece recitales “Micrófono abierto”, participado y organizado diversos festivales de poesía, y publicado una antología poética junto a seis autores jóvenes brillantes de Los Teques y Caracas. Hace algunos meses, me retiré de Habitantes de la calima debido a asuntos personales, y para mí fue un espacio de mucho aprendizaje, sano aprovechamiento del tiempo y encuentros amenos.
To my delight, I’ve organized and participated in various artistic activities in Los Teques and Caracas, mainly in poetry. I was one of the co-founders of the Movimiento de Jóvenes Creadores de Los Altos Mirandinos (Young Creators Movement of Los Altos Mirandinos), currently called Habitantes de la calima (Calima's Inhabitants), with which I had the good fortune to organize more than thirteen "Open Microphone" recitals, participated in and organized various poetry festivals, and published an anthology along side six brilliant young authors from Los Teques and Caracas. A few months ago, I withdrew from Habitantes de la calima due to personal issues, and for me it was a leraning space, a healthy use of time, and enjoyable events.
Para mí, el teatro, la poesía, y las artes en general, me han permitido conocer a gente talentosa y maravillosa, al mismo tiempo que me ha dado herramientas para crear y crecer como persona. For me, theater, poetry, and the arts in general, have allowed me to meet talented and wonderful people; at the same time, it has given me tools to create and grow as a person.

A nivel de difusión de mis escritos, he tenido la fortuna de ver publicados, en formato digital, varios de mis trabajos poéticos y dramatúrgicos. Mi primer texto en llegar al plano editorial, fue un poema breve titulado Existencia, que ganó un lugar en la Antología de Poesía Inédita Venezolana 8va edición del Fanzine de la Flia Caracas (2018). Ese mismo año, fui seleccionada como tercera finalista del II Certamen de Poesía venezolana “Ecos de la luz”, realizado por Ediciones Palindromus, con los poemas Golfería, (Des)composición y Siete; y gracias a ese certamen, la casa editorial publicó Antes de preparar el té (2019) una plaquette de mi autoría en formato digital. En 2020, a pesar de lo incómodo de la pandemia, La Revista Literaria Anuket publicó mi poema Ascomycota [Parasitoide], como parte de la antología 30 Poesía Eróticas en su número de septiembre de ese año. En Habitantes de la calima conseguimos publicar nuestra antología poética Habitantes de la calima: Sequía, durante el Festival de Poesía Miranda, a través de la Editorial Senzala. Así como tuve el gusto de participar con tres piezas en Dramaturgias en movimiento: tres voces emergentes en el teatro venezolano, como resultado de un taller de dramaturgia online dictado por Carlos Dimeo a través de la Compañía Nacional de Teatro.
Regarding the distrbution of my work, I've been fortunate to see published, in digital format, several of my poetic and dramaturgical works. My first text to reach the editorial level was a short poem entitled Existencia (Existence), which won a place in the anthology Poesía Inédita Venezolana 8va edición del Fanzine de la Flia Caracas (8th edition of the Unpublished Venezuelan Poetry of the Flia Caracas's Fanzine) (2018). That same year, I was selected as the third finalist in the II Venezuelan Poetry Contest "Ecos de la luz", carried out by Ediciones Palindromus, with the poems Golfería, (Des)composición [(De)compotition] and Siete (Seven); and thanks to that contest, the publishing house published Antes de preparer el té (Before making tea) (2019) a plaquette of my authorship in digital format. In 2020, despite the awkwardness of the pandemic, Anuket Literary Magazine published my poem Ascomycota [Parasitoide], as part of the 30 Erotic Poetry anthology in its September issue of that year. In Habitantes de la Calima we managed to publish our own poetic anthology Habitantes de la calima: Sequía (Inhabitants of the Calima: Drought), during the Miranda Poetry Festival, with Editorial Senzala. I also had the pleasure to participated with three pieces in Dramaturgias en movimiento: tres voces emergentes en el teatro venezolano (Dramaturgies in motion: three emerging voices in Venezuelan theater), as a result of an online dramaturgy workshop dictated by Carlos Dimeo through the National Theater Company.
Al vivir en Los Teques, una ciudad reconocida por su acervo musical, y, como buena tequeña amante de la música, también incursioné en los estudios musicales, formándome en la ejecución del cuatro venezolano por cinco años, e impartí clases de iniciación al cuatro durante dos años en diversos espacios. Práctica que he descuidado en años recientes por una lesión recurrente y mi enfoque en la investigación teatral.
Living in Los Teques, a city recognized for its musical heritage, and as a good music lover, I also explored into musical studies, in the execution of Venezuelan cuatro for five years, and I gave introductory classes on cuatro in locations for two years. Practice that I’ve neglected, in recent years, due to a recurring injury and to my theater research.
Recientemente, por la situación pandemia, he laborado como agente bilingüe de telemarketing y customer service, aunque a lo que en verdad quiero dedicarme es a hacer Teatro y cine.
Recently, due to the pandemic situation, I have worked as a bilingual telemarketing and customer service agent, although what I really want to do is to make plays and make movies.
Por último, me gustaría compartir un dato curioso sobre mí: a los siete años me caí de un juego en un pequeño parque que había en mi escuela -a la altura de un primer piso-, y, al día de hoy, no recuerdo absolutamente nada de ese día.
Finally, I would like to share a fun fact about me: At age seven, I fell down from one of the games in my school’s playground -at a first-floor height-, and, even to this day, I can’t remember anything from that day.
