Mary Daisy Dinkle es una niña de nueve años que vive en Australia con una familia poco particular, su padre trabaja en una empresa de té y su hobby es disecar aves muertas que consigue en el camino de regreso a casa, su madre es alcohólica con problemas personales y aparte de eso es cleptómana. Mary consigue una guía telefónica de Nueva York, viendo los nombres que aparecían en ella decide escribirle una carta a alguien al azar, una carta que empieza siendo un juego termina empezando una amistad de años con Max Jerry Horowitz, un obeso de cuarenta y cuatro años sin empleo que sufre ataques de ansiedad y tiene el síndrome de Asperger.

Mary y Max es una película animada en Stop motion; ya he comentado que es el stop motion pero aun así lo explicare en cada post, el stop motion es una técnica donde se colocan figuras y se le toma una fotografía, se cambia de posición y se toma otra, de forma consecutiva hasta dar el efecto de que se mueve. Es una técnica bastante tediosa y que requiere bastante trabajo, la mayoría de películas con esta técnica son de conocimiento popular, no solo por la técnica usada, sino por las historias contadas, en este caso, Mary y Max no es solo una película para entretener, es una película para apreciar y para prestar atención a cada comentario que puede llegar a tener los dos protagonista de esta película.
Los personajes son personas rotas que buscan un camino en su vida, algo a lo que seguir, excepto por Max que cada vez que algo esta fuera de su lugar entra en colapso. La curiosidad de una niña de nueve años de Australia le trajo tantos problemas existenciales como para querer saltar del edificio de donde vive, Max es una persona sencilla, Mary es una persona bondadosa, los dos son una pareja de amigos que te hacen arrugar el corazón con su amistad.
Por un tiempo llegue a pensar que esta película era sobre un amor, dos personas que se escribían letras o algo por el estilo, pero la verdad es mucho más dulce cuando se trata de dos seres que se ayudan desde la distancia; tanto de edad como de kilómetros, llevando otros temas que no te imaginas hasta que suceden y solo quieres ver como termina todo para terminar de dejar la preocupación de como terminaran estos dos seres que tienen un vacío de amor.
La película dura una hora y media, es australiana, tiene pocos personajes aparte de los ya contados y un narrador que dice lo que los personajes no pueden decir, con una maravillosa técnica de animación que se ha visto antes, todo en blanco, negro, gris y marrón con algunos toques de colores que le da relevancia a ese objeto o momento en particular, Mary y Max es una película animada para adultos, porque solo ellos podrán entender lo hermosa que puede ser en realidad.

The characters are broken people looking for a path in their life, something to follow, except for Max who every time something is out of place he collapses. The curiosity of a nine-year-old girl from Australia brought him so many existential problems that he wanted to jump out of the building where he lives, Max is a simple person, Mary is a kind person, the two are a couple of friends who make your heart wrinkle with their friendship.
For a while I came to think that this movie was about a love, two people who wrote letters or something like that, but the truth is much sweeter when it comes to two beings helping each other from a distance; both in age and in kilometers, carrying other issues that you cannot imagine until they happen and you just want to see how everything ends to finish leaving the worry of how these two beings who have a vacuum of love will end.
The film lasts an hour and a half, it is Australian, it has few characters other than those already counted and a narrator who says what the characters cannot say, with a wonderful animation technique that has been seen before, all in black, white, gray and brown with some hints of color that gives relevance to that particular object or moment, Mary and Max is an animated movie for adults, because only they will be able to understand how beautiful it can actually be.
Esta fue una película que mi pareja quiso ver por un tráiler donde se veía bastante conmovedora y dio bastante en el clavo.
