Saludos amigos, sigamos adentrándonos en el mundo de la filosofía, a través de estos posts que estoy compartiendo con la comunidad, referentes a algunos pensamientos filosóficos que más me llaman la atención, resaltando en ellos – sobre todo – su actualidad.
Esto es importante, porque es una forma de demostrar que la filosofía no es simplemente una ciencia para algunos “ratones de biblioteca” o “personas superdotadas”, nada más alejado de la realidad, ya que la verdad es que la filosofía es lo más natural que posee el ser humano. De hecho, creo que en el pensamiento que les vengo a compartir hoy, lo podemos descubrir.
Se trata de la siguiente frase: “Conócete a ti mismo”, atribuida a Sócrates y que, muy probablemente, muchos de ustedes habrán escuchado. Existen, en efecto, infinidad de comentarios a la misma, ella ha sido también inspiración para otros filósofos… pero, hoy en día, ¿Qué nos puede enseñar?

This is important because it is a way to demonstrate that philosophy is not simply a science for some "bookworms" or "gifted people", nothing further from reality, since the truth is that philosophy is the most natural thing that human beings possess. In fact, I believe that in the thought that I come to share with you today, we can discover it.
It is the following phrase: "Know yourself", taught by the philosopher Socrates and which, most probably, many of you have heard. There are, indeed, countless comments to it, it has also been an inspiration to other philosophers... but, today, what can it teach us?

Sócrates no dejó ninguna obra escrita, por ello, lo que sabemos de su vida y pensamientos nos viene por quienes fueron sus discípulos, entre los que destaca Platón. En cuanto a la frase traída en este post, aunque es atribuida a diversos filósofos, lo cierto e importante es que Sócrates fue quien la popularizó e hizo parte esencial de su sistema filosófico.
Esta frase estaba inscrita en la entrada del templo de Delfos, por eso, se le conoce también como oráculo de Delfos y quiere inspirar el camino del auto-conocimiento por parte del ser humano, pues, por entonces ya se consideraba esto como algo esencial en la vida.
Podemos decir que Sócrates lo practicaba a cada instante al enseñarles a sus discípulos, con su particular método dialéctico, a indagar dentro de sí, para encontrarse con el conocimiento de aquellas cosas que son fundamentales en la vida: el bien, la justicia, la verdad, etc.

Así pues, lo esencial de este pensamiento socrático encerrado en la frase de “Conócete a ti mismo” es, una invitación al autoconocimiento, lo cual es muy importante, ya que el conocerse a sí mismo es la mayor ciencia que puede lograr el ser humano en esta tierra, por eso, el título que encabeza esta reflexión es “La ciencia por excelencia”.
En efecto, podemos llegar a dominar las ciencias y los saberes más complicados pero si no nos conocemos a nosotros mismos, todo eso valdrá muy poco, pues, lo que realmente nos permite madurar en la vida es adentrarnos y sincerarnos con las respuestas que le damos a preguntas como: ¿quién soy yo?, ¿hacia dónde me dirijo?, ¿qué quiero para mi vida?
Por otra parte, es en el interior del ser humano donde éste libra sus principales batallas, en cuanto es allí donde define sus criterios, discierne sobre sus decisiones, opta por el bien, construye sus juicios, da forma a sus opiniones, en fin, a donde debe acudir una y otra vez para estar seguro que actúa desde sí mismo y desde su libertad y no, simplemente, desde agentes externos a él.

On the other hand, it is inside the human being where he fights his main battles, as it is there where he defines his criteria, discerns his decisions, opts for the good, builds his judgments, gives form to his opinions, in short, where he must go again and again to be sure that he acts from himself and from his freedom and not, simply, from agents external to him.

- Dedica un tiempo a pensar en ti mismo, donde lo que prevalezca sea el que puedas lograr definir tu misión de vida, esto es, que puedas precisar que es lo que buscas en las acciones que realizas durante el día: ser mejor persona, aportar a la sociedad, ayudar a alguien en “x” o “y” cosa o situación, etc.
No pases esto por alto, no le creas algo tonto u obvio. Es necesario adentrarnos en nosotros y conocer cuáles son nuestras motivaciones más profundas.
- Al decir, pensar o actuar de determinada manera, examina (en el mismo momento o después, ambas etapas son válidas) si lo que dices, piensas o haces es acorde a tus criterios, tus valores, la misión de vida que has descubierto, o si simplemente te dejas llevar o condicionar completamente por factores externos.
Esto me parece muy importante porque he conocido personas que se dejan robar su personalidad; ¿tal vez nunca la han tenido?, no sé, jajaja, lo cierto es que siempre debemos hacer todo desde nosotros mismos, pues, aunque hagamos una obra de caridad muy buena, sino la asumimos desde adentro, ella no impactará nuestro ser en profundidad.
- Spend some time thinking about yourself, where what prevails is that you can manage to define your mission in life, that is, that you can specify what you are looking for in the actions you perform during the day: be a better person, contribute to society, help someone in "x" or "y" thing or situation, etc.
Don't overlook this, don't believe something silly or obvious. It is necessary to go inside ourselves and know what our deepest motivations are.
- When saying, thinking or acting in a certain way, examine (at the same time or later, both stages are valid) if what you say, think or do is in accordance with your criteria, your values, the life mission you have discovered, or if you simply let yourself be carried away or completely conditioned by external factors.
This seems very important to me because I have known people who allow themselves to be robbed of their personality; maybe they have never had it, I don't know, hahaha, the truth is that we should always do everything from ourselves, because even if we do a very good charity work, if we don't assume it from within, it will not impact our being in depth.
