La torre del homenaje es todo lo que queda del castillo de Alcalá de los Gazules. De origen árabe no aguantó las embestidas de siglos de guerras. Quedando en pie únicamente el muro oeste, esta ruina queda abandonada hasta que en el siglo XXI se llevan a cabo una serie de rehabilitaciones de la fortaleza.
The keep is all that remains of the castle of Alcalá de los Gazules. Of Arab origin, it did not withstand the onslaught of centuries of wars. With only the west wall remaining standing, this ruin was abandoned until the 21st century, when the fortress underwent a series of restorations.
En las obras se encuentran multitud de objetos de diferentes épocas y se construye las partes de la muralla que faltan y el techo de la primera planta.
A multitude of objects from different periods were found and the missing parts of the wall and the roof of the first floor were built.
La torre estaba distribuida con una entrada estrecha que llega a los aljibes y almacenes. De ahí se subía a la primera planta, luego a una segunda y la parte alta que es la defensa de la torre.
The tower was laid out with a narrow entrance leading to the cisterns and storerooms. From there, one could go up to the first floor, then to the second floor and the upper part, which is the defence of the tower.
El interior queda abierto en dos espacios de la torre original. El aljibe y la planta primera.
The interior is open in two spaces of the original tower. The cistern and the first floor.
Subiendo por una de las escaleras subimos a la que sería la segunda planta que queda al aire libre y se pueden ver perfectamente las columnas que formaban los arcos de las bóvedas.
Going up one of the staircases we go up to what would be the first floor, which is in the open air and the columns that formed the arches of the vaults can be seen perfectly.
Quedan restos del piso original.
Remains of the original floor remain.
Se ha instalado una escalera metálica para subir a la altura original de la defensa y se ven unas vistas espectaculares.
A metal staircase has been installed to go up to the original height of the defence and there are spectacular views.
El castillo fue volado por las tropas napoleónicas cuando se retiran de la población en la primera mitad del siglo XIX.
The castle was blown up by Napoleon's troops when they withdrew from the town in the first half of the 19th century.
