My Favorite Food - The Almighty Ghana Jallof 🇬🇭

When counting hot substances on this earth, fire stands out. Same way jallof rice stands out when counting all rice delicacies. Don’t get it twisted, jallof rice from all African countries is dope but as the African folks say, no matter how long the beards are, it can not be older than the eyebrows. Forget all the internet trolls, Ghana jallof is a classic.

Hello everyone, my name is Native Boy and this is my entry to this week’s prompt- My Favorite Food

Before I talk about my favorite food, I would like to send a sincere apology to my good friend gari. Second to God only, gari has been my savior ever since secondary school, and not even for once did it forsake me. But due to the fact that my love for gari is heavily influenced by poverty, I’ll be writing about jallof rice in this contest.

Jallof rice is a popular delicacy in the whole of west Africa. It is a popular party staple, the people’s favorite. It can be found in every corner onevery street of Ghana 🇬🇭 at all times of the day. Jallof rice is noneconomic bias. No matter your level of income, you can still afford a very delicious jallof rice on a decent budget.

Rice, tomatoes, pepper, fish, onions, spices, and a few other ingredients are just what you need to make a great jallof rice. Depending on your variety of rice, cooking ingredients, and amount of heat applied, your jallof rice can be done in less than an hour.

My favorite thing about the Ghanaian jallof is the fact that it doesn’t need any auxiliaries to be great. Although It doesn’t mind being complemented with chicken, fish, salad cream, and all the other rich garnishing ingredients, the rice alone is enough to make you want some more. A classic banger.

My jallof rice comes in two forms. The pre broke jallof rice which consists of only the rice and plenty of shitor (pepper sauce). And my Prince Henry jallof rice which comes with the rice garnished with some decent chicken thigh or maybe some big fishtail. And definitely with some salad cream topping. My lowest budget Price Henry jallof rice comes with at least an embryo (egg).

I forgot that price Henry is now king Henry 🤦🏿‍♂️

Another fantastic fact about jallof rice is that it can be eaten at any time of the day. Personally, I think the breakfast jallof rice is the best. The one that they wrap for you in pawpaw leaves on your way to work. Nothing is more satisfying than the fresh aroma that you breathe immediately after you unwrap the leaves. If you make this a habit, you might always have a bone to pick with a co-worker for wetting her innocent appetite in an early morning. (Choice of pronoun is intentional, you know why👍🏿)

In conclusion, I would like to remind you that all the good things you see on the internet about Ghana jallof are not just hype. There are receipts to prove its worth. Other countries enjoy comparing their own jallof rice to the almighty Ghana jallof just to feel among.

I appreciate your time🙏🏿
