Splinterlands: Your opponents are spying on you (and how to avoid it)

As you probably know, every card you own, every transaction you made and every battle you ever played in Splinterlands are stored in the Hive blockchain. However, there's a bit more to it and you opponents can use it to their advantage.

Let's get straight to the point. When you enter a battle in Splinterlands, you have a limited time to select the cards you are going to play with. When you're done, you submit your selection by pressing "BATTLE". The battle then starts once both opponents submitted their decks. However, as described in THIS POST, the moment you clicked "BATTLE", your card selection for the current battle is also immediately recorded in the Hive blockchain, which makes it public. I note that it is not a bug, but a feature. It has to be like this so that the game-play is fair and transparent and nobody can interfere with it.

Normally this wouldn't be a problem, because you opponents are not going to crack through the last block of the Hive blockchain to see which cards you have chosen, while panick-selecting their cards in the last seconds of the countdown. But when you have an app which does it for you in no time, you can gain an unfair advantage, especially in cases when your opponents didn't take much time to submit their decks. Unfortunately, such app already exists. It's called Splinterviewer and can be found here. It also shows previously used decks of your opponent and it looks something like this:

Indeed the app is not free, which will likely discourage most potential users, and as their website says, the option to see the cards which your opponent selected in the current battle does not always work. But sometimes it does, which is a problem for you.

So how to avoid being spied on?

Simply don't submit you card selection early. Wait until the timer is almost at zero. Like this, even if your opponents would see your cards at the last moment, they probably wouldn't have enough time to re-build their deck from scratch.

I hope this post will help you win a few more battles in the future.

And if you don't have a Splinterlands account yet, get one now, it's fun!
