THE FLYING SQUID

This week we are to supposed to face our enemies with the help of the scary Flying Squid. This creature is a horrific predator that should not be underestimated for any reason. The Flying Squid does not just sit and wait for its prey to fall into the waters rather it launches itself out of the water and glides just far enough to get to its victim. When this killer squid gets to its prey, it blinds them with its ink so they can't tell what's coming. The prey is left to only imagine what horror awaits them.

Here are the stats of this monster's card;

image.png

Right off the bat, this monster can serve as a decent second tank with its Reach ability and a health of 8. The health increases and reduces at different levels but gets to a max of 10 at level 9. The monster gains an extra attack at level 3 and an extra speed at levels 4 and 5. This tentacled beast is given the Blind ability at level 6 and makes the most of its speed when it gets the Backfire ability at level 10.

I will be playing with this card at level 5.

Below is the info of my lineup👇:

NAMEKELYA FRENDUL

RARITYRARE

MANA COST4
BUFFS+1 TOUGHNESS, +1 SPEED

The Weak Magic ruleset provides the best opportunity to give all monsters an armor buff. This is what makes Kelya very useful in this situation. Not only is this summoner going to help reduce magic damage with her +1 armor but she will increase the speed of all friendly monsters so they have an increased chance of attacking first and, of course, dodging enemy attacks

In the first place is one of my favorite water monsters, The Serpent of Eld. This monster serves as a good tank with its high speed and Dodge ability. If I'm lucky, he should get a couple of misses from melee and ranged attacks. This monster also does a high damage and with its high speed, it should most likely do a great deal of damage before it gets any done to it.

Because of its Reach ability it would make sense to place the Flying Squid in the second position. If Serpent of Eld gets killed, the Flying Squid can serve as a second tank.

Djinn Oshannus is a card that I see getting played many times so I decided to use him today. This monster's high speed and x2 magic attack makes it makes it a force to be reckoned with. Also, this monster can serve as a backup third tank with its void and phase ability. Together with its high speed, the enemy is going to have a hard time getting some magic damage on this guy. Let's see if he even gets to the frontline.

ABILITIESRESURRECT, INSPIRE

Of course I want my tanks to be able to absorb as much damage as possible so to make that possible, I decided to use River Hellondale. This monster's resurrect ability will be especially useful in the Weak Magic ruleset because the resurrected monster comes back with full armor. His inspire ability will also make sure the melee attack monsters do heavy damage to the enemy.

ABILITIESPROTECT

I want to make the most of the Weak Magic ruleset and the best way I figured to do that is to give my monsters more armor buffs. Luckily, Venari Wavesmith is the monster for the job. With her Protect ability, she will add +2 armor to my monsters making them much more difficult to get pass even by magic. The enemy will sure have a hard time.

MANA COST10

ABILITIESFLYING, DODGE, DEMORALIZE

Defending the backline is the dreaded Phantom of the Abyss. With a high speed, the Flying ability and the Dodge ability, this monster has a high dodge chance and will give any melee or ranged sneak attackers a tough time. He will also reduce the melee attack of all the enemy monsters causing them to do just a little damage to my heavily armored monsters. A high speed means that this monster will most likely attack first and, with 3x magic, it should do some heavy initial damage.

Strategy

The Weak Magic ruleset can be very advantageous. I want my monsters to last as long as possible. The main thing for me now is to have a strong defense in the front and back lines hence all the armor buffs. To ensure these monsters last longer, I have also used high speed attackers with a lot of damage that can take out monsters before they get the chance to attack.

  • River Hellondale takes out Djinn Renova.
  • Prismologist tries to take out Serpent of Eld but misses again.

Round 3:

  • Phantom of the Abyss, Djinn Oshannus, Serpent of Eld and Flying Squid all attack Chaos Dragon with a cumulative damage of 14 leaving him with just 1 health.
  • The desperate Chaos Dragon takes out Serpent of Eld but River Hellondale resurrects him with 1 health and 5 toughness.
  • Venari Wavesmith takes out the Chaos Dragon with x2 magic damage forcing Prismologist to the frontline.
  • Gargoya Devil throws blades at Serpent of Eld causing a x3 damage to his armor, 2 toughness remaining.
  • River Hellondale fires at Prismologist destroying her armor.

Round 4:

  • Phantom of the Abyss and Djinn Oshannus take out the helpless Prismologist leaving just the Gargoya Devil.
  • Serpent of Eld, Flying Squid and Venari Wavesmith all attack Gargoya Devil but Flying Squid misses leaving Gargoya Devil with 1 health.
  • In one last desperate attempt, the Gargoya Devil throws blades at Serpent of Eld destroying its armor.
  • River Hellondale takes it upon himself to deal the last blow with a 2x magic attack on Gargoya devil, 0 health remaining.
    DEFEATED!

Victory!

Despite having to face the terrible dragons, Kelya and her monsters stood their ground and, with immense teamwork, were able to take down the monstrous beasts. Quix had a little too much fun with this battle and it cost him his pride. What a joke.

Did My Strategy Work?

Divider.png

Absolutely! I made the most of the weak magic ruleset as I wanted. The extra armor from Kelya was not enough so it was a wise move to place Venari Wavesmith in the lineup. Her extra armor was very useful even after Serpent of Eld was resurrected.

Speaking of resurrected, that was also a smart move because it allowed Serpent of Eld absorb more damage than I actually expected. I was also able to get the right timing to use the Serpent's 5x melee attack in the first and second rounds effectively doing great damage to the enemy's health.

The Serpent of Eld served as a great Tank. This monster's high speed and dodge ability helped it evade Prismologist's 3x attack twice.

In conclusion, my monsters were able to hold out for long just as I wanted. The quick concentrated frontline attacks made sure that I was able to deal very heavy damages to the monster in front taking some out even before they could attack.

Divider.png

Do I like the Flying Squid?

Divider.png

Oh yes I do and that means a lot coming from someone that hardly uses water in battles. I love that it is a fast monster with Reach and a heave 3x damage. This monster's high health also make it a good secondary tank. I really don't see what's not to like about this monster.
