Scary but powerful, meet Night Ghoul

Riftwatchers recently arrived in Splinterlands and it brought excellent cards to have in battles and for this post I will talk about the Night Ghoul card from the death deck. If you still don't know her, then in this post you will learn what her uses are in battles, how to get her and also why she will be a great choice for you to have in your collection.

Let's start with her usefulness in battle and to understand her you will first need to look at her stats below.

The image above will give you an overview of the card, as you can see it belongs to the death deck and is a common card so it has 10 levels. It's important to know about the levels because each league has limits on what levels of cards you can use in battles but I won't go into detail about that, you can check these limits by looking at your current league in the battles section.

The Night Ghoul has 11 mana cost, so it's a pretty high value and you'll probably only be able to use it in battles with a high amount of available mana (doesn't mean you can't use it in battles with low available mana). His attack type is melee and he is the type of card that will defend in 1st position (you can use him in any position you want, but he will only be able to attack if he is in 1st position). He has a high amount of health and shield and his speed is low.

His abilities are Taunt and Forcefield. For you to understand better how they work I will give a brief explanation about them.

Enable Level 1

The first ability is Taunt. This ability makes the card that has it be the target of attacks from the opposing cards, so the Night Ghoul will be the card that will receive all the damage until it is defeated. What is the advantage of having this ability?

The advantage is that as long as the Night Ghoul is being the only target, all your other cards are safe because they won't take any damage (unless the opposing cards have the blast ability). But this is bad news for the Night Ghoul as he won't be able to survive for long and that's true but the Forcefield ability will help him in battle.

Enable Level 6

The second ability is Forcefield. This ability makes the card that has it take only 1 damage when it takes damage from a card that has 5 or more attack. How will this help the Night Ghoul?

The answer to this question is quite simple, as the Night Ghoul is a high mana cost card so it means that you will probably use it in a battle with a high amount of mana available and that means that your opponent will also have this mana and will use cards with high mana cost as well and if you look at the variety of cards that Splinterlands has to offer, then you will realize that cards with 5 attack or more than that are not that hard to find, especially if they have buffs in battles. This means that if your opponent has a lot of attack in battle he will deal very little damage to Night Ghoul and this will make him survive longer in battle as the damage taken by these cards will only be 1.

The Night Ghoul may only have 2 abilities, but the 2 are excellent and will help him a lot in battles. Since you now know more about the Night Ghoul's usefulness and also what its abilities are, I will tell you what its advantages and disadvantages are.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages

The first advantage of having the Night Ghoul is that he will be the main target of your opponent's attacks and as he has a high amount of health and shield, so he will not be defeated easily and as a bonus he has a high amount of attack and that means it will also be useful in dealing damage in battle. The second advantage of having it is having the Forcefield ability, as I said before you will probably use it in battles with a high amount of mana available so your opponent having cards with 5 attack or more is very common and against Night Ghoul it means that these cards will only deal 1 damage to him.

Disadvantages

The first downside to owning the Night Ghoul is that its mana cost is high, that means you won't be able to use it in every battle because it's more common to have battles with a low amount of available mana, but that doesn't mean you can't use it. you can use it. Its second disadvantage is being targeted by the Giant Killer ability, as it costs 11 mana so it will take double damage against cards that have this ability. The third disadvantage is that his speed is low, especially at level 1 and 2, this means that he will not be a fast card and probably one of the last ones to attack in battle, but this disadvantage can become an advantage when you have the Reverse rule. Speed in battle.

Current Price

Now that we know the Night Ghoul card better, let's take a look at its price and see how much it would cost to have it at its maximum level.

Its current price is $0.19 for 1 BCX, this value is a little "high" if we take into account that only the Deeplurker of the Legion of Chaos has a similar value, but we also have to take into account that the Riftwatchers cards are very recent so their values are very volatile these days. In my opinion I consider it a very useful card because the Taunt ability can make a big difference in battles, especially if you also have cards to heal and shield the Night Ghoul in battle. But I believe that its greatest utility is against cards that have 5 or more attack, in my opinion it is not as strong when your opponent doesn't have cards like that, but as Riftwatchers has less cards than chaos legion and also that Night Ghoul causes a lot of damage in battle, I believe this value is not too high for him and could increase even more when Riftwatchers packs are no longer for sale in Splinterlands.

You can also use a very useful tool that Peakmonster provides, in this tool you can see the chart of sales of the cards in the last 24 hours, 1 week or 1 month. Let's take a look at the Night Ghoul weekly chart.

In the last 7 days 3720 Night Ghoul cards were sold and the average price was $0.159, so the current value of $0.19 is pretty high but as the Riftwatchers cards have very volatile values so it's hard to say if it will go up or down in price . To buy or not will be your decision and this is not an investment tip.

How to get Night Ghoul?

To get Night Ghoul you can buy the Riftwatchers pack in Splinterlands for 5$ + 1 Voucher.

If you want, you can also buy the pack on the Hive Engine for a lower price, but it will not be eligible for the Riftwatchers edition airdrops.

The last option is to buy through the Marketplace in Splinterlands I mentioned earlier for $0.19/BCX.

LORE

On the storm-ridden realm of Veorgaror, the night ghoul carved out its existence in the lonesome darkness. It fed on small prey in the wetlands and underground, and although it looked utterly terrifying, the creature rarely killed, preferring instead to forage the rotting meat of corpses.

When the Chaos Legion captured it, they saw a vicious potential buried deep within the monster. They took the powerful topaz garnet, fashioned within the chaos forges using dark mana, and forced it into the creature’s eye socket. The gem’s magic radiated bursts of pain through its skull, sending it into a murderous frenzy. Not only that, but the gem’s chaos energy also served as a dampener, allowing the ghoul to absorb massive damage with minimal effect.

The Chaos Legion needed somewhere to test the night ghoul’s effectiveness as a berserker killer, and where better than the Splinterlands. It never hurts to remind a conquered people of who won, now and again.
Yuri led the night watch along the cobblestone street, their burning brands held high. Shadows jumped and lurched on the surrounding buildings. “Whoever you are, come out!” he shouted. “We have you surrounded.”

That peculiar scraping came again, like nails across stone, and a low, rasping breath sounded from the blackness of a nearby alleyway. They crept toward it, weapons at the ready. One brave watchman strode boldly ahead, holding his brand aloft as he peered into the narrow passage.

Something jerked him forward. His brand fell to the damp cobblestones, sputtered, and went out. The clang of steel followed, and Yuri figured the watchman must have dropped his sword. That’s when the screaming began. It was high and horrible. A sound like celery torn in two, and the screams became a wretched sob.

“Gods, no,” someone said.

Then it came.

It bowled into them, sending the men and women of the night watch sprawling in all directions. Yuri stumbled and fell on his belly. Clawed feet stomped across his back, rending his flesh, and he cried out in pain. When he looked up, the thing was among them, lashing out with wicked claws, tearing limbs from bodies. They tried to fight, but for every swing of an axe or sword, the beast only became more enraged. It grabbed a woman by the throat and tore her head off in a spray of gore.

And it was laughing. A deep, bestial rumble that came from deep in its throat, but oh, gods, it was laughing.

Yuri lay still, pretending to be dead, and when the thing was done and it had slaughtered every other member of the night watch, it hunkered down on its haunches, its back to Yuri, and feasted on the bloody mess.

Yuri eased himself to his feet, sword in hand, careful not to make a sound. The wounds on his back were an agony, and blood plastered his shirt to his skin. The beast chewed and gobbled its meal noisily. Its meal—they had been Yuri’s friends and neighbors. He clenched his teeth and took a step toward the thing. Then another. And another. The beast didn’t turn, intent on its gruesome banquet. Yuri wrapped both of his hands around the sword’s hilt, raised it above his head, and brought it down with all his might.

It landed solidly on the creature’s skull, but impossibly, the blade deflected, tearing a long piece of scalp along with it. It sank into the meat of the creature’s shoulder instead. With an angry howl, the thing stood and whirled. The hilt tore from Yuri’s grasp, still lodged in the creature’s shoulder. It tore the blade free and threw it. The sword slid across the cobblestones with a clang and a clattering.

The beast leaped at Yuri. He fell on his back. Beat at it with his fists. Its mouth stretched wide, breath hot and fetid, teeth streaked with gore and long and, oh, so sharp. It fell on him and tore out his throat.

Yuri gurgled and spluttered. As he lay dying, he thought of his children, alone at home. How long until the beast found them?
