Just completed the 5th brawl with my awesome guild, which is none other than Pizza 2 The Deep Dish!
- Fun In The Discord Chats
Really appreciated the interaction in the Discord chats within the Pizza guilds. During the preparation phase, there's a lot of information sharing and discussion on who to fill each fray. During the brawls, there were reminders to members to complete their brawl battles. And after the brawls, there were celebratory messages and some members (including me) would write about our experience in the brawls. Aside from brawls, I thought the donations were also very well organised and tabulated, with lucky draws to incentivise donors as well.
- Trying Out A New Fray...And How It Went
My experimentation with different frays continued as I opted for Fray 6 this time. It was purely 3/2/2/1 and I thought this would be easier than my previous brawl which was 3/2/2/1 Chaos, because I would be able to use more of my card collection. On hindsight, I was actually wrong because this meant my opponents would be able to do the same, and this made it harder to predict which cards my opponents would select, compared to Chaos, where I already knew most of the cards by now. That said, I was still able to get a decent result though I was expecting myself to do better.
- We Got 3rd!
So for the final result, we finished 3rd out of 10 guilds and got a decent 600 Merits, which was a great result in my view.
Individually, I had 6 fights this time and I managed 3 wins, finishing 9th within the guild. Hopefully I can do better the next brawl.
Let's jump into the battles!
Battle 1 - LOSE
Gladius Card Used: None
Like I mentioned, it is extremely to predict what cards my opponents would select. Even with 2 cards with Thorns ability, I was unable to defeat a self healing Haunted Spirit. And my Life Sapper was voided by Void Dragon.
Battle 2 - WIN
Gladius Card Used: Isgard Vorst
A comfortable win in this battle as Legionnaire Alvar proved to be the main difference as it took the Magic hits better my opponent's Serpent of Eld. My overall damage was also higher with Axemaster. Interestingly, my Gladius card didn't get any last hits throughout as the kills were always "stolen" by other cards. Lol!
Battle 3 - WIN
Gladius Card Used: Bertrol Gobson
I thought my opponent made a mistake for this battle by fielding just 2 cards for a Equaliser battle. As a result, it was a free win for me but I must say, it still wasn't easy to get rid of Mycelic Infantry that was supported by Thorns and Tank Heal. Fortunately, I had enough Magic damage.
Battle 4 - LOSE
Gladius Card Used: Witch Of Warwick
My strategy for this Equaliser unfortunately didn't work out. I used Cursed Windeku to boost all HP to 9 and threw in 3 cards with Life Leech. Unfortunately, my opponent's cards were higher level and dealt damage faster than my cards could leech life. The life leech went well at the start but went downhill after 3 rounds.
Battle 5 - LOSE
Gladius Card Used: Isgard Vorst
I thought my lineup was pretty strong this round but unfortunately my whole backline was destroyed by Blast and even my Djinn Oshannus couldn't save the team. Phantom of the Abyss was too strong a card to take on.
Battle 6 - WIN
Gladius Card Used: Isgard Vorst
Isgard Vorst appeared for the 3rd time this brawl! Lol! But it was River Nymph that made the difference as she cleared the Poison and Djinn Oshannus was able to stay on to take out my opponent's Gelatinous Cube at the end.
So that sums up my 6 battles for this brawl! No free wins this time - hopefully I will get some next brawl! Hehe!
Review Of Gladius Cards
Since I am able to use Gladius cards now, I thought I should review selected cards that helped me win in the brawls. This week's feature is none other than Bertrol Gobson! Of course, please let me know if you have any tips in using these cards too as I am keen to learn and improve too!
CARD: BERTOL GOBSON
ELEMENT: EARTH
RARITY: COMMON
ABILITY: BLOODLUST, OPPORTUNITY
At only 2 mana, it is definitely one of the top choices for low mana fights. However, it doesn't quite complement Obsidian's boosts, so that is not preferred. While he has Opportunity, the challenge also comes with protecting him from Opportunity cards. Finally, one issue with this card is probably its usage, i.e. it is only suited for low mana fights and I wouldn't pick a 2 mana Gladius card for a high mana fight because of the quota.
