Well, I made it!
I have more than 1,000 SPS staked. I think that is good, right?
The thing is, this feels like an achievement, but it is not something I remember actually shooting for.
When it comes to Splinterlands, I think of 3 things, really:
- Why do I get such terrible cards in my packs, forever and always?
- When will I ever see my cards be worth what I paid for them?
- I hope, hope, hope that Land pays off!
And really, there is a bonus 4th item: I hope that the Tower Defense game is awesome!
You see, I am a shrimp, but I shot my shot and spent most of my money way back during the early days of the SPS airdrop, when a little shrimp could battle his way to Silver leagues and actually get rewards. Since that time, the value of my Splinterlands assets has disappeared faster than Elon Musk's billions.
All my hopes these days rest in my one little land Plot and in enjoying (and not losing too much money on) the Tower Defense game that will appear someday.
All of these theme connect, trust me. In the early days, I remember waiting and waiting for weeks, I think, before I had my first 1.0 SPS. I think I was getting .007 or something like that each day. So, I got excited, I bought a bunch of DEC to get more CP, bought cards that were good value given the rules at that time, and started to build a little bit of SPS in my stake.
Then, of course, all the rules changed, my deck was not able to keep me qualified for decent leagues, rewards more or less vanished, and the extended Splinterlands tokenverse went into freefall. I know this happened to a lot of people, and I am sorry if it happened to you.
Essentially what happened at that time was that I gave up 98% on the game. I could not compete without buying more cards to compete with the strong new pack drops, and given that I was already waaaaaaaaaay under water and broke, that wasn't going to happen. But I still liked playing in Brawls with my Guild (#thgaming woot!), I had my PLOT, and I had a vision that I would enjoy Tower Defense better.
I started using all my SPS staking rewards and all my DEC from renting my once semi-mighty deck to buy NIGHTMARE packs. Remember, I am a shrimp, so my achievements might look pitiful to you, but I have gotten up to 20.
So my goals were:
- don't embarrass myself in Brawls
- get Nightmare packs
- guess wildly at the best place to claim my land plot deed
I have made a little progress on these goals, but as I said before, the one goal I for sure met was one I did not have.... Stake 1000 SPS
"Why did you not have this goal?"
Sea Genie is not sure why I did not have this goal. I am not either, but I can tell you how I achieved it without intending to!
It turns out that my other goals of (1) not embarrassing myself in Brawls, (2) getting Nightmare packs, and (3) hanging on to my land PLOT all created a somewhat steady drip of automatically staking SPS.
(1) Brawls in my league have paid out 9-13 staked SPS per round
(2) my 20 Nightmare packs seem to give me 1.3 staked SPS per day
(3) my land Plot seems to give me about the same 1.3 staked SPS per day
I think you can see how I accidentally met this nice goal. I suppose this is a testament to the incestuous incentive system of Splinterlands tokenomics at the moment. By hanging on to the stuff I like, I earn stuff that I otherwise would probably sell. That is a kind of magic!
I wonder what Splinterlands goal I will accidentally achieve next?!?!?
Thanks for reading, and I hope your goals are being achieved in 2023!
