Hello, Splinter lover how are you? How is grinding today? For me very hard, I drop twice from Champion League to Diamond and got so many lost strikes. Today I want to write a blog again in Splinterlands Community in order to join the contest Battle Mage Secrets Challenge. This Week's Theme according to the contest is Lost Legendaries ruleset.

I play in the modern format, Diamond League, using my scholar account from Balthazar. This is their Discord if u want to join, but u must waitlist first because right now the scholar is full.

Ruleset

  • Going the Distance: Only monster with range attack can be used in this battle.

  • Lost Legendaries: can not use the Legendary monsters.

  • Target Practice: All range and magic monsters have the Snipe ability.

    • Snipe ability: Targets enemy Monsters with Ranged, Magic, or no attack that are not in the first position.
  • Mana cap.
  • Can use element Fire, Water and Life.

My Lineup and strategy

I think the Lost Legendaries ruleset in the Target Practice does not play so much important factor in the decision to use the element. At least with my card which only consists of Chaos Legion and Reward Card.
Usually, we will choose the Dragon element in the Target Practice ruleset, the Dragon summoner Quix can decrease the damage of range attack. But the Dragon element can not be used in this battle so we choose water, which has the summoner who can give armor, and the monster with the ability Taunt who can reflect the enemy range attack. For the targeted attack, we always try to focus fire, because of the ruleset Target Practice we will focus on attacking the monster in the 2nd position if the enemy does not bring the monster with the Taunt ability. I talk about it more in the lineup discussion :

Summoner or monsterAbilitiesDescription
Kelya Frendul, Give armor and speed +1 to all friendly monsters. The ability of this monster is crucial in this battle, the range attack monsters need to destroy our monster's armor first before decreasing our monster's HP, High speed will increase the chance for us to attack first, hit the enemy monsters, and evade the attack of the enemy range monsters.
Gargoya Devil, 1st position, 2nd tanker and attacker. Has the ability Flying, Closed Range, and Deathblow abilityPlaced in 1st position as a second tanker because with Closed Range ability can attack in the first position. For defense ability, this monster has a Flying ability which increases the chance to evade the enemy ranger attack by 25%.
Swamp Spitter, 2nd position, attacker and support. Has the ability to Repair, and Giant Killer. He will restore some armor to the friendly Monster every round whose armor has taken the most damage. Has good attack of 3, and 2 armor. Put in the 2nd position to defend against an enemy monster attack who has Snipe ability now. At least he has armor, if the enemy wants to damage the HP it needs to destroy this monster's armor first. I know this monster is not good as a tanker, but we don't have any other monster who has armor and good damage.
Angelic Mandarin, 3th position, attacker and support. Has Triage and Silence abilityI have chosen to place this monster in its current position as the next tanker. it possesses the Silence ability to reduce the enemy's magic attack by 1 which is useless in this battle, It has a Triage ability which can heal monsters not in the first position, my strategy is to use this monster to heal Swamp Spitter who will receive attack after our monster with Taunt ability Wave Brood die.
Merdhampir, 4th position, attacker. Has the ability Life leech, Cripple, and Snare abilities.Placed in fourth position as the last tanker, because have Life leech ability, with this ability the monster's health increases each time it damages an enemy Monster's health in proportion to the damage dealt. When the Angelic Mandarin died, at that time I think this monster may have good HP already, Cripple ability, which can decrease the maks HP by 1 every attack. Usually, the enemy will bring a monster with the Flying ability as a tanker in the ruleset Going the Distance if Merdhampir attacks the enemy monster with the Flying ability the Snare ability will disable the Flying ability.
Supply Runner, 5th position, attacker and Support. Has Swiftness, and Strengthen abilityWe need this monster to further boost all our monster speed by +1 because it has Swiftness ability. Increasing speed may help our tanker evade the enemy attack. The Strengthen ability will make all of our monsters may live longer by enhancing the HP by +1.
Wave Brood, 6th position, attacker and tanker. Has the ability Taunt, Close Range, Void, and Return Fire. With this monster's Taunt ability, we can split/share the damage between the monster in first position and this monster. Wave Brood Return Fire ability capable of reflecting damage back to any ranged monster that attacks it. Void ability reduces the damage from magical attacks by half but this ability useless in this battle. The monster's Taunt ability ensures that the enemy monsters prioritize attacking this monster if they can. Although Wave Brood is typically a ranged attacker, its Close Range ability allows it to attack even when positioned in the first position.

The Battle

  • Round 1:
As usual, the battle starts with buff and debuff from both sides.
Our monster and the enemy Wave Brood keep reflecting the range attack back and give damage to the armor / HP of both side monsters. All enemy monsters from 2-6 positions attacking our Wave Brood except Coastal Nymph who has Scattershot ability (attacking random enemy).
In this round ,Rune Crafter who has the ability Fury attacked our Wave Brood who has the ability Taunt, cause our Wave Brood received double damage (3 damage x 2 = 6 damage)

  • Round 2 :
At this round, we can kill the enemy Wave Brood first due to the high speed of our monsters, and start attacking the enemy Swamp Spitter. After a while, our Wave Brood dies from being attacked by the enemy Sea Stalker.

  • Round 3:
At this round, because no more Wave Brood from both sides, many monsters started to die, our monster Suppy Runner attacked first and killed the enemy Swam Spitter. The next enemy monster who dies is Rune Crafter dies attacked by our Swamp Spitter. Our monster Swamp Spitter dies too in this round attacked by the enemy monster Sea Stalker, and then our Supply Runner dies attacked by a random hit Coastal Nymph with Scattershot ability.

  • Round 4:
The enemy Gargoya Devil dies attacked by our Gargoya Devil, the enemy Sea Stalker moves to the first position and can't attack anymore.

  • Round 5-6:
The enemy can not do anything in this round, our monster keeps attacking while they only receive the attack without having a chance to attack back. In round 5 our monster Angelic Mandarin attacked the Coastal Nymph and killed it and the winner become ours.

Did your Strategy Work?

Frankly, I thought I would lose the battle this time because apart from that the enemy summoner Lux Vega is better than our summoner Kelya Frendul has the same abilities as our summoner, and also gives +1 additional HP to all friendly monsters.
The biggest problem is that the enemy brings Rune Crafter, this monster has the Fury ability which can deal 2x as much damage as it should to monsters that have the Taunt ability.
Also, the enemy brings 2 monsters from the Riftwacher deck Coastal Nymph and Sea Stalker which have significant damage.
In this battle, we can see that the enemy has a total damage of 21 while we only have a total of 15 damage. It's just that the enemy doesn't bring healers and also the Coastal Nymph attacks randomly on our monsters, while we focus fire attacking 1 monster with all of our monsters.
We also brought a Supply Runner who has the ability Swiftness which causes our speed to be higher than the enemy, in every round, almost all of our monsters always attack first, and manage to kill the enemy monsters before they can attack.
