Splinterlands Battle Mage - Rise of the Commons

Hello Splinterfans!

This week we have the new Battle Mage Secrets weekly challenge with the ruleset Rise of the commons.

The Rise of the Commons ruleset can be heavily influenced by other rulesets that are in the game, but it can remove some key monsters from some of your important line ups.

The main strategy that I play here is to replace some of those legendaries with something equally good or try and play something different, but equally powerful as a curve ball.

In today's battle, we also have the Ferocity ruleset, so not too many other restrictions.

Let's check this week's battle.

ROUND 1 - Mycelic Morphoid vs - Cruel Sethropod

It was a real conundrum if I should go for a full out attack on my opponent or try and add some heal in case of a magic attack. I am glad that I added the Albatross in and he gave some vital heal to help with this game. I had also anticipated possible sneak attack and therefore wanted Pelacor Bandit at the bank with his fast speed to repel this if possible.

To replenish him, there is Angelic Mandarin who also give the triage ability to my back row.

Round 1 starts off and Mycelic Morphoid is the first to fall. Those thorns are no use against ranged attack. Shortly after, Xenith Archer falls next.

This is a good start, but Regel Peryton is looking very dangerous with his 3 magic attack.

ROUND 2 & 3

Normally I would have the neuteral legendary Uraeus in such a low mana line up, but he is epic level and can't play here. Instead I rely on Pelacor Bandit and Deeplurker for the main thrust of my attack and support them with heal and triage.

Round 2 starts well with Pelacor Bandit taking out Khmer Princess. Now it is Regel Peryton's turn as he takes out Cruel Sethropod with his 3 magic attack. It is a devastating blow as he still has 5 shield too! A better choice to use here could have been Xenith Monk with his heal and void abilities. Good to consider for next time, he is also a rare monster which is ok to use.

ROUND 4 - 6

Round 4 starts off with a pivotal deadly strike of Pelacor Bandit against Regel Peryton. If this had missed, Deeplurker would have been toast and we could have seen another result.

Hill Giant falls next and it is pretty much a formality now.

Summary:

The Rise of the Commons ruleset is a great ruleset as you get a reduced set of monsters to choose from and can play some different combinations than you are used to.

Important to remember is the effect of other rulesets that can cause havoc on your lineup, such as Odd/Even cards and then it can get tricky.

For this ruleset, it is important to have your common and rare cards leveled up enough to give you that advantage. In modern, it can be you have less cards to fallback on, so thinking up some other tactics can also be a good idea.

How do you play the Rise of the Commons ruleset?
