Splinterlands Battle Mage - Lost Magic

Hello Splinterfans!

This week we have the new Battle Mage Secrets weekly challenge with the ruleset Lost Magic.

The Lost Magic ruleset is a good chance to play some more melee or ranged attack focus without the fear of being taken out by a strong magic deck. This is also good for monsters with lots of shield who don't need to worry about magic killing them easily.

However, using magic attack is a popular attack method and it can upset your stride somewhat. When the focus is on melee or ranged attack, some tactics to use could be to debuff the ranged attack with Quix the Devious for example. This would also open up some dragon monsters to play with.

Another idea could be to use speed or piercing abilities to your advantage to outgun your opponent. This would mean to use a water deck or Jacek in the fire deck for the speed and piercing ability.

In today's battle, we have an interesting mix of thorns and reverse speed to mix things up a bit. How will it work out?

Let's check this week's battle.

ROUND 1 - Grund vs - Uriel the Purifier

With thorns and reverse speed rulesets combined with no magic, it leaves the main focus on ranged attack. My opponent has gone for Sloan to buff the ranged attack with the powerful Uriel the Purifier as tank.

To face him off I have gone for Mycelic Infantry with his normally slow speed reversed and his Giant Killer ability I hope will produce something for me.

To debuff ranged attack, I have gone for Quix the Devious and added my Runi with his reflection shield into the mix. Round 1 starts with Gargoya Devil falling first

My opponent is looking very fragile as we start round 2.

ROUND 2

Round 2 starts off with a bang, usually Uriel is dishing out some pain, but this time he takes a massive 10 hit from Mycelic Infantry with his Giant Killer ability taking him out.

Venari Crystalsmith is the next to fall. War Pegasus survives luckily as Naga Assassin misses. I mistakenly put Naga in without thinking about reverse speed.

ROUND 3 & 4

Round 3 starts off with Mycelia Infantry taking out War Pegasus for good now. He also falls thanks to thorns.

Pelacor Arbalest is next to fall and Prismologist follows swiftly in round 4.

It's all over.

Summary:

The Lost Magic ruleset reduces the options to melee or ranged attack. Therefore debuffing one of these could be a good way to go. Sometimes relying too much on ranged attack can cause your team to collapse quickly once your tank falls.

Therefore, choosing the right tank is very important. The reflective shield is also one of the great benefits to playing Runi, he can really give some advantages here.

How do you play the Lost Magic ruleset?
