Brawls are the battles fought between guild members, this is an advanced type of battle system a bit similar to 'Tournaments', but it is divided into 3 stages i.e. Prep Stage, Combat Stage, and Rewards Stage.

I have written an introduction to Splinterlands Battles, where you can learn about battle types including Brawls offered in the game.

Participation in Guild Brawls

Brawls are available to any player having a guild membership, if you are not a member of a guild then you should join a guild to participate in brawls. Here is a detailed guide on "How to Join a Guild in Splinterlands", follow the steps to find a suitable guild and enjoy doing brawls and earn SPS and Merit tokens.

STEP 1: Preparation Stage

You can see 10 guilds participating in Guild Brawls, the guilds are randomly selected and matched with each other according to their ratings and levels.

Prep stage runs for 48 hours, during this time guild members can choose any "Fray" according to their battle strength. This process can also be done by a guild leader, who can select strong members and assign them to available Fray slots. Usually, a guild member receives a notification to enter into a brawl session each time he/she opens up the Splinterlands website.

Frays are like groups of different leagues where a certain number of players compete with each other.

A list of available Frays can be seen on the left side of the Brawl page below the timer as shown in the image below.

Click "ENTER FRAY" button to join a Fray. Each Fray comes with different rules, so choose a Fray depending on your cards and strategy. Once you have joined a Fray slot, it will turn to green color showing your name and CP. You can leave a Fray any time within 48 Hours time period and join any other unassigned Fray slot.

STEP 2: Combat Stage

Once the Prep Stage timer ends, you'll receive a new notification to enter your team for Combat as shown below.

Here, you see some green and red slots, guilds can use tactics to have an upper hand on opponents.

Green slots belongs to Home Arena, when you enter a team in Home Arena your guild's active tactics will give you some advantage over enemy players, these tactics are unlocked in "Barracks" building.

Red slots belongs to the enemy guild, when you fight a brawl in the enemy arena, your opponents have some battle advantages over you.

When you click "ENTER TEAM" button, you'll reveal your opponent and active arena tactics applicable to that brawl, have a look at the image below.

We can see, there are 2 tactics "Advantage" and "Banish I" applicable to the battle in the enemy's arena. On the left side of the panel, you can see the battle ruleset, mana cap, and allowed faction elements.

Once you have entered your team in the arena, you'll either see a notification to wait for the result, or the brawl will start straight away if your opponent had already entered his team in the arena.

The brawl battle screen has a rocky mosaic wallpaper as shown in the image below.

You can view the tactics for the current battle in the Brawl information bar as shown in the image below.

Here is a closer look at the arena tactics.

The battle runs like a normal ranked battle, but the result screen is a bit different in terms of rewards, you'll not see any rewards there.

The battle result screen only shows who wins and who loses and that's all.

Brawl Updates
As you enter more brawls, you'll find updates as they occur on the Brawl page.

Now, look carefully at the image, you can observe brawl slots with a green and red rectangles around them.

  • A brawl having a green rectangle means a brawl won
  • and the red rectangle means a brawl lost
  • you can watch your finished battles by clicking on the play button

Reward Stage

Previously, the guild members can only earn Merit rewards, but after a consensus voting, now all guilds can earn staked SPS in addition to Merit rewards.

The above image shows a monthly reward pool for staked SPS, this reward pool will expire after the completion of 65 months.

You can access Reward Pool and Brawl Rewards via Brawl Page.

Brawl Rewards
If you want to look more specifically at individual rewards, you can check your individual rewards from the Brawl Rewards page.

On this page, you can review your potential rewards and Guild Crowns. The rewards keep updated as you progress through the combat stage. If you want to grow your rewards then increase your brawl tier, upgrade guild building, and stay higher in the brawl rankings.

Rewards Received
Once the Combat stage is over, you'll receive a notification in the game that you have been awarded some Merit and staked SPS rewards.

Rewards received notification

Cool Down
A 24-hour cool down applies after each reward distribution, after 24 hours a new brawl session starts, and all guild members receive a notification to fill Frays to participate in the ongoing brawl session.

Guild membership has its benefits, if you have good cards or you can rent some higher-level cards, then you should join a guild to enhance your Play-to-Earn experience.

As you know, now Gladius cards can be used in ranked battles, the only way to get some of them is to be a guild member, and earn Merit rewards to buy Gladius cases. Additionally, you'll also receive staked SPS, which will improve your voting power and earn daily SPS rewards.
