Overview

The new Weekly ruleset Challenge is an amazing twist that I am enjoying so far and I hope there will be twists like that in the future to keep this Challenge's fresh. 😁

This week the ruleset is the Up Close and Personal, which means that only units with melee attacks can be used.

Use Thorns and Demoralize to counter melee attacks. Units with 2 types of attacks (including melee) can be used. 😊

The upcoming Battle ruleset

RulesetDescription
Up Close and PersonalOnly Monsters with Melee attack may be used in battles.
Lost LegendariesLegendary Monsters may not be used in battles.
Odd Ones OutOnly Monsters with odd Mana costs may be used in battles.

The mana cap for my next battle was 18, which is quite a small amount and I do not really like it, because it ties my hand to tight what monsters I can choose. Usually I will pick the Fire or Water Splinter if it is possible, because they got excellent Summoners and monsters for low mana battles.

Using only melee attack monsters will heavily limit the usable pool of monsters and it doesn't help in this situation that all the legendary monsters are eliminiated as well. The third restrictions are the Odd Ones Out ruleset, so it will be interesting to see what monsters left to use for this battle. 😁

My lineup

image.png
Kelya Frendul is almost always my number one Water summoner when it comes to choose the Water deck, because he gives +1 armor and speed to all of his monsters, which is amazing. 😘
The Cruel Sethropod is the perfect low mana tank, because he cost only 3 mana and he has a lot of health and armor compared to his mana cost. He doesn't have any ability, but he is capable to sustain a lot of incoming damage. 👍

The Tide Biter also a low budget monster and he has the Reach ability, which means that he is able to attack from the second position. His most important ability is the Reflection Shield, which makes him completely immune to any kind of indirect damage. 🤩
The Uraeus cost only 3 mana and his ability is Sneak, which makes him to attack the alst monster from the enemy team.

The Pelacor Bandit is one of my favorite reward monster, because he has a lot of speed and the Flying ability, which will make him to dodge a lot of incoming attacks, which is much better than having any armor with lower speed. 🤗
I used the Creeping Ooze to protect my squishy backline damage dealers and to decrease the speed of all the enemy monsters by one. 😇

The Hardy Stonefish doesn't have any abilityon its own, but he cost only 1 mana and has few armor piece, so he will be able to block at least two incoming enemy attack before he dies. 😋

My opponent brought Tyrus Paladium who gives only +1 armor to all of his friendly units, which is not much, but he cost only 3 mana and because this is a very low mana battle this cheap Summoner might save up just enough mana to use a stronger monster.

I have choosen the 4 mana cost Kelya Frendul, because he gives +1 armor as well to his units, but also he will increase their speed as well by one. I love to play with the Water Splinter and they are also has some nice low mana cost monsters.

My opponent had a very powerful Crystal Werewolf at his back, because he has the Thorns ability, which will reflect 2 damage back against all the melee attack monsters, such as my Uraeus and Pelacor Bandit.

By the second round I have lost two of my 1 mana cost monster and even my Sneak monsters lost their armor and took some damage, because of the Thorns.

The third round were crucial, because 2 Sneak monster was versus 2 and it will be important to see who will be the first and who has any armor left. My Pelacor Bandit saved the day with his high speed, because he attacked first and killed one of his Sneak monster and he managed to dodge the enemy Sneak attack and I think he single handedly decided the result of this battle.

My last four monster easily killed his tank in the first position thanks to my Pelacor Bandit. 😘

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?

My strategy was to try to use as much as monster I can squeeze into this battle and give them armor to block at least one incoming melee or ranged attack. Even though my opponent picked a similar Summoner my Kelya incrased the speed of his units as well, which was very important to determine who will attack first. 🤗
