What do I do with this new Going the Distance ruleset?

The same update that brought us the wands out ruleset also brought us a ruleset called going the distance. My strategy guide for wands out was received alright, I'll just have to make this guide even better.

For any strategy at level 1 you can work to buff your attacks. The best option for buffing ranged attacks is Yodin Zaku.

Unfortunately I can't afford my own copy of Yodin, but I can afford to rent one and you may find that it's worthwhile. Yodin is a fantastic monster for a great many rulesets. In addition to buffing ranged attacks Yodin gives your whole team the blast ability which is overpowered for most of the things you'll face.

The other summoner that buffs ranged attacks is General Sloan.

Sloan is available to all of us as a ghost card even if we don't own our own copy and aren't renting one.

At level 2 we can work to counter our opponent's strategy. There are a few ways to work on countering. There are summoners that debuff our opponent's ranged attacks. Those options include Contessa L'ament.

Like Sloan, Contessa is available as a ghost card even if you don't own your own copy.

Quix the Devious is a fantastic summoner to debuff our opponent's ranged attacks and slow them down. Quix also gives us access to our dragons.

There are also some great monsters with the headwinds ability to debuff your opponent's attacks. Some of these are very affordable including Ash Mirage.

and Naga Windmaster

Another great way to counter the ranged attacks that you know are coming is the return fire ability which you can give your team with Lir Deepswimmer.

I think ranged attacks are more complicated to work with than the magic attacks we discussed last time. You aren't able to attack with your ranged attacks from the tank position unless you have the close range ability, and you have to take armor into consideration.

This is certainly not an exhaustive guide for the new going the distance ruleset and those with bigger budgets will have more options at their disposal, but I think it's a simple, easy to follow starting point.

If you're playing in the bronze and silver leagues with me then you may find some of your opponents ill equipped for these new rulesets. I've had a few opponents show up with 1 monster on their side of the battlefield. If you can prepare yourself then you're likely to have some success with these new rules. I can't wait to see what's next.

I hope this post has been helpful and informative. Thanks for reading and thanks for all the upvotes, reblogs, comments and follows. I'll see you in the game.
