El título de este escrito es la típica pregunta que nos hacemos muchísimas veces cuando tenemos al alcance, alguna obra literaria. Por lo menos a mí, me pone sumamente feliz cuando la respuesta a dicha interrogante suele ser: para todas las edades; aunque esto, la mayoría de las veces solo se descubre al leer el libro. Las versiones originales de dos de los grandes clásicos de la literatura: Las aventuras de Pinocho y El maravilloso mago de Oz fueron concebidas por sus autores y lanzadas al mercado para público infantil, han logrado atrapar a lectores de todas las edades, nacionalidades y contextos sociales.

The title of this writing is the typical question that we ask ourselves many times when we have some literary work within reach. At least for me, it makes me extremely happy when the answer to this question is usually: for all ages; although this, most of the time, is only discovered by reading the book. The original versions of two of the great literary classics: The Adventures of Pinocchio and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz were conceived by their authors and released to the market for children, they have managed to catch readers of all ages, nationalities and social contexts.

Las aventuras de Pinocho es una mezcla bien equilibrada entre una comedia y una tragedia capaz de seducir tanto mentes infantiles, juveniles y adultas. A veces llega a ser una historia un poco terrorífica; pero mucho menos que Alicia en el País de las Maravillas de Lewis Carroll.

Este libro describe los cambios y procesos de auto conocimiento que ocurren en la niñez, y de descubrimiento del mundo real que rodea a los infantes. Es una muestra de cómo los niños y niñas aprenden a interactuar con los adultos, con los maestros, con los amigos y los no tan amigos. Fundamentalmente es una evidencia del difícil proceso de aprender a distinguir lo bueno de lo malo y qué camino seguir.

El maravilloso Mago de Oz también fue un libro destinado al consumo infantil escrito por el periodista norteamericano Lyman Frank Baum (1856-1919) e ilustrado por W. W. Denslow. Fue el primer libro de cuentos infantiles que recrea lugares típicos de América y con personajes característicos de dichas regiones, en una época donde todos los cuentos para niños incluían paisajes y personajes europeos. Lo que muchos quizás no sepan es que El maravilloso Mago de Oz publicado en Chicago en 1900 es el primero de catorce libros dedicados a Oz.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was also a book intended for children's consumption written by the American journalist Lyman Frank Baum (1856-1919) and illustrated by W. W. Denslow. En contraste con lo ligeramente tenebroso que me pareció por momentos el libro de Pinocho, la historia de la bella Dorothy en la Tierra de Oz es un cuento con un lenguaje más sutil y ligero y nos hace reflexionar sobre qué es lo que pudiera ser más importante en la vida. Por un lado está la inteligencia (el Espantapájaros desea un cerebro), los sentimientos (el Hombre de Hojalata anhela un corazón), la valentía (el León cobarde quiere tener valor), la familia (Dorothy junto a su inseparable perro Totó desea desesperadamente volver a Kansas con sus tíos) y la amistad (los protagonista durante toda la historia aprendieron a quererse y cuidarse). Ojo, esta es mi interpretación.

In contrast to how slightly dark the book of Pinocchio seemed to me at times, the story of the beautiful Dorothy in the Land of Oz is a tale with a more subtle and light language and makes us reflect on what could be more important. in the life. On the one hand, there is intelligence (the Scarecrow wants a brain), feelings (the Tin Man wants a heart), courage (the cowardly Lion wants to have courage), family (Dorothy along with her inseparable dog Toto desperately wants to return to Kansas with his uncles) and friendship (the protagonists throughout the story learned to love and care for each other). De las dos narrativas, el El maravilloso Mago de Oz fue mi historia favorita, creo que porque soy más parecida a Dorothy que a Pinocho. Ojalá les gusten tanto como a mí y que la felicidad toque sus puertas al leer estas joyas de la literatura.

Of the two narratives, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was my favorite story, I think because I'm more like Dorothy than Pinocchio. I hope you like them as much as I do and that happiness knocks on your doors when you read these gems of literature.
