Hello, Splinter Fanatics!
When a player starts in Splinterlands, he realizes that it is necessary to acquire and level up as many as possible his cards, in order to be able to move up in the league and increase his rewards in the game. Finally, there are numerous advantages to doing this.
- The monster gains or improves its attributes:
In the example below, Furious Chicken when upgraded from level 2 to 3 gains (1) melee attack.
- Gains new skills:
Upgrading this card from level 4 to 5, the chicken literally goes berserk 馃槄 and I acquire the Enrage ability.
| Has increased melee attack and speed when damaged. |
- Upgrading cards increases player rewards:
At the beginning of this season, an update was implemented in the game that modifies the rewards farmed by players, which are now proportional to the level of the cards used in battles. For more details on this change, access the proposal at sps.dao.
In the image below, after a battle in the Gold League where Furious Chicken and Torrent Fiend were cast, both at level 1. And as these cards are not compatible with the level required by the update, I took a nerf of ( -18%).
In this way, the player who wants to continue with his winnings and even increase them is encouraged to level up his cards.
However, in certain combat rules higher level cards are at a disadvantage compared to their lower level versions. Two combat rules where this happens frequently are Reverse Speed and Keep Your Distance.
In the Reverse Speed Rule, monsters with the lowest speed attack first and have the highest chance of avoiding attacks. That is, as we level up a card and it gets faster with this rule, the card becomes slower.
In terms of speed, the level 5 Furious Chicken is faster than the same level 8 card. In a battle with the Reverse Speed combat rule and with these two chickens facing each other, probably the Level 5 has the best performance.
Something that bothered me a lot when I started Splinterlands was when I leveled Creeping Ooze from level 1 to 5. And in battles with the combat rule Keep Your Distance my Creeping Ooze wasn't there, many times I had the feeling that I lost my letter or that I was Hacked?
In today's post, we are going to analyze a battle, where the combat rule Reverse Speed made the opponent with all the cards upgraded to the maximum lose the battle for our team with an initial level card.
This battle took place in the Gold League in Wild mode under the following match rules: Close Range and Reverse Speed. The first rule allows cards with ranged attack to attack from the first position and the second one has been mentioned before.
The battle has only (15) mana cost, so we chose the Life Splinter, in low mana battles he is my favorite. The summoner chosen by me was Tyrus Paladium which gives (+1) armor to all allies.
Our opponent, on the other hand, opts for the Splinter of Dagr茫o and Vida, indirectly he made the same choice as us and probably for the same reasons, powerful and low cost cards. However, he used a very stolen Summoner, Archmage Arius, which grants all allies (+1) on all attack types.
Below is our escalation strategy:
| In the first position we climb Gargoya Scrapper, with (1) mana cost, as a discard card. | |
| In the second position is another discard card, Soul Fied, with zero mana cost. | |
| n the third position was chosen Cave Slug, a melee attack monster with the ability Opportunity and at level (3) it has (1) speed. | |
| Next, we cast Stitch Leech, also a melee attack card and Sneak ability. | |
| In the penultimate position was chosen Uraeus for melee attack and Sneak ability. | |
| Finally, Furious Chicken was scalded as a discard card to protect the rear monsters from the first attacks. |
Our opponent's lineup and possible strategy:
| In the first position our opponent played Furious Chicken, also as a discard card but at level 3 it has (1) melee attack. | |
| In second position, our opponent set Dax Paragon an epic card with (1) magic attack that has only (2) mana cost and the abilities Affliction and Amplify. | |
| In third position our opponent chose Silvershield Archers, with (1) ranged attack and also with only 2 ranged attack and the skills Snipe and Double Strike | |
| Then Cave Slug was cast, the same card climbed by us, but at level (8) where it has (2) speed and the Scavenger ability. | |
| In the last position was chosen Lensmaster, with (1) ranged attack and the ability Blind. |
Observing our opponent's lineup, even with cards with only (1) attack, your summoner increases all your attacks by (+1). And that's a big problem!
Without further ado, let's go to battle! 馃
In the first round, after buffs and debuffs, the battle starts. Our humble team gained (+1) armor and took the Blind debuff, which increases our chance of missing attacks. Our opponent increases by (+1) all his attacks.
The first monsters to be defeated were the Furious Chicken, from both teams. And Dax Paragon becomes the enemy tank.
In this round, Silvershield Archers and Lensmaster were defeated, two powerful enemy cards that one with Double Strike and the other with Blind ability.
And our team lost Gargoya Scrapper and Soul Fied, for now our main cards are still on the field.
In the third round, the opponent was left with Cave Slug with incredible (12) health and (4) melee attack and (2) speed. Even with all the opponent's attack power, our strategy with distraction cards and additional armor and mainly with lower level cards managed to win the battle.
But for choosing a card with lower speed and lower level than recommended by the changes in rewards. I got a nerf of (-29%). And so, I ask @splinterlands is it fair I managed to win battles like this and get penalized?
Making this happen is a great achievement and players who play with lower level cards, in these situations should have their rewards calculated based on the opponent's cards, that way the nerf would be smaller or null.
In today's post we saw that leveling up cards is not always beneficial and we proved this fact in a battle with the Reverse Speed combat rule, where our lower level team managed to beat the opponent with a maximum level card, in the respective league .
Since Splinterlands is a strategy game, I will never agree with this update that punishes those who use cards of lower levels and still manage to beat an opponent who has cards up to the maximum, in the end the game is about strategy and not about brute force.
And do you share the same opinion?
Ol谩 Splinter Fan谩ticos!
Abaixo segue nossa estrat茅gia de escala莽茫o:
A escala莽茫o do nosso oponente e poss铆vel estrat茅gia:
E voc锚s partilham da mesma opin茫o?
