SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge: CARRION SHADE

Hi, Hive! Learning to survive in a new financial environment and today I found some time to participate in another round of the Share Your Battle Weekly Challenge from the @splinterlands team.

The monster of the week was suddenly CARRION SHADE and it was curious to try out a couple of strategies with him. Given his low cost he's very good for battles with little mana, Equalizer or Earthquake, but he's proven to be the most effective as... bait!

For example, I've had a couple of Equal Opportunity rules (targeting the weakest monsters) and Broken Arrows (no archers) today, and I used the following strategy in one of my fights:

  • ZINTAR MORTALIS summoner, to reduce damage from melee cards;
  • HAUNTED SPIRIT on the first position, with great health and the ability to repel magic damage (I'm sure the enemy will use mages);
  • Second and third positions are CARRION SHADE and FURUIOUS CHICKEN, which divert first attacks on themselves. I would love to add CORPSE FIEND to them, but I ran out of rent for this monster just before this fight;
  • then SILENT SHA-VI, which is very good with the Equal Opportunity rule, and thanks to its great speed it quickly incapacitates weak cards;
  • PELACOR DECEIVER completes the combo, which at a cost of 5 mana has an impressive amount of health, and the level of attack and speed makes it quite effective in fights with an average amount of mana.

Intuition did not fail, and the opponent made an emphasis on magical attacks, using powerful DJINN OSHANNUS and a couple of weaker mages, reinforced by ALRIC STORMBRINGER.

Everything went according to plan - the mages attacked my weak CARRION SHADE and FURUIOUS CHICKEN, giving the melee attackers a head start, so HAUNTED SPIRIT played a decisive role, quickly restoring health and returning the magic damage he had done.

Perhaps this kind of flexibility in strategies is the reason to love Splinterlands and find a decent use for even the most "weak" at first glance cards.

Happy to participate and see you on the virtual battlefields!
