Hello Friends,

@splinterlands/share-your-battle-weekly-challenge-octopider

I hope you are doing good and are safe wherever you are as the Corona CoVid 19 cases are on the rise again!!!
Well, the condition in India is getting worse and worse with each day although the daily number of cases have seen a fall after the lockdown since 28th of last month, but some of the states like Maharashtra and Karnataka are still seeing rise in cases.
Well, here I am with a blog for this week's SHARE YOUR BATTLE weekly challenge by @splinterlands and the monster which is getting featured this week is Octopider from Death splinter.
Octopider is a rare Death splinter monster of ranged attack type and has 2 awesome abilities which, we will explore below.
I use it the most whenever enough MANA cap is there and when I sense there can be many melee attack monsters on the other side as, the Octpider has an ability to demoralize melee monsters by reducing their attack by 1.

As we see above, it's one of the must use monster provided we have enough MANA as it gives good ranged attack from level 1 itself with an attack of 3 and starts with health of 7.
When it's upgraded to level 3, we will get the demoralize ability and that will be quite handy.
The attack increases to 4 from level 5 onwards and can only increase to 5 in final level i.e. level 8.
The health remains same at 8 from level 2 and at level 7, it will get another ability of having a chance to blind melee and ranged attack monsters from other side.
The speed starts at 3 and increase to a max of 4 from level 4 onwards.

Battle and Lineup:

So, this was a battle with 38 MANA to accommodate the Octopider and since this was a battle with rule set Target Practice* and Earthquake, I used most of the flying monsters as I could afford with MANA cap of 38 and below is the lineup.

Lineup:

1. Dark Ha'On:

Used this to pull all the attack towards front and avoid my magic and ranged attack monsters getting exposed early.
The scavenge ability this monster has, will be good one for earthquake battles.

2. Corrupted Pegasus:

A tank healer, Corrupted Pegasus is something I use in almost all the battles since it has that tank heal ability and also, it is with good melee attack of 3 besides strengthening the health of all friendly monsters.

3. Phantom Soldier:

Another flying monster for Earthquake battle with 3 magic attack and also it silences the magic attack from other side by reducing it by 1 and can get lesser attack from magic attack since it also has void ability.

4. Enchanted Pixie:

Used this purely to increase the melee attack for Dark Ha'On and Corrupted Pegasus and no need to say it's another flying monster :)

5. Octopider:

The theme monster with that demoralize ability for the level 6 one I have and more than ability, it was helpful with it's 4 ranged attack.

6. Furious Chicken:

Lastly, since the MANA cap was fully covered with usage of Octopider, I used this zero cost monster as a protection against possible sneak attack in case Dark Ha'On gets removed.

Opponent used Selenia Sky summoner with monsters Peaceful Giant, Gelatinous Cube, War Chaang, Golden Dragon, Lightning Dragon and Earth Elemental.

Battle:

Round 1:

No damage was done from both sides in this round since there were 2 high MANA monsters were there at the front in Peaceful Giant and Dark Ha'On.
While lack of a tank healer from opponent's lineup was a drawback to her, still, the Peaceful Giant survived in First round.

Round 2:

With earthquake on and also not attack from First 2 monsters for opponent, both got removed in this round in Peaceful Giant and Gelatinous Cube.

Round 3:

There was a monster each got removed from both side with Dark Ha'On and War Chaang got removed and that brought Gold Dragon and Corrupted Pegasus to the front.

image.png

Round 4:

Round 4 also saw removal of 2 monsters One each from each side with Gold Dragon and Corrupted Pegasus bowing out.
Since 2 ranged attack monsters were left for the opponent and one of them being at front, couldn't attack, the battle was almost over.

Round 5:

With both Lightning Dragon and Earth Elemental getting removed in quick succession, battle was over!!!!!
As I said earlier, usage of 2 non attacking monsters at front 2 positions and also lack of a tank healer surely hurt the opponent.

Questions and Answers:

Did my strategy work? What will I try differently next time?

As we see in above round by round details, the lineup I used was far better than the one used by opponent and even Octopider did a great job in getting those monster out in quick succession.
If I wasn't using Octopider, I would have used Ancient Lich for it's life leech ability and also for 3 magic attack.

Do I like the OCTOPIDER? Why or why not?

Obviously I like it like any other death splinter monsters like Dark Ha'On, Corrupted Pegasus and all since it's worth using with only constraint being it's high MANA cost.

So, that was all about this wonderful battle, I call it wonderful because the I have been at the losing end against the same opponent on most of the occasion and that made this victory more sweeter one to me.
I just hope you had some nice rewards from the just concluded Splinterlands season and as usual, I got mediocre rewards this time too with a legendary monster, but I still cherish that Gold Foiled Legendary I got few days back :)
Thanks for being always there to support me with upvotes, comments and suggestions and I always appreciate that.

Wishing all Happy weekend n a good week ahead :)
