**The Kavac Caves** is a rocky gorge formed by erosion on one of the slopes on the plateau located in the southeast of the Auyántepuy in the **Kamarata Valley**. It is named for its proximity to the indigenous **Kamaracoto** village of **Kavac** in **Canaima National Park**, **Bolivar State**, **Venezuela**. The word **Kavak** means in the local aboriginal language, Royal Parrot (_Amazona ochrocephala_). A bird that usually takes to the skies in numerous flocks and makes a roar with the chirping of these birds. **The Kavak Caves** are basically a canyon lake flooded by the river that descends from the mountain that makes its way through the natural vault caused by erosion. The local guides are the Kamarakotos Indians who live in the village of Kavak, they have a tourist camp with an airstrip to receive tourists from all over the world. The walks to this place include tours throughout the mountainside where you can visit several impressive waterfalls, the highlight is to reach the end of the Kavak Caves. To get to **Kavak** you must board a small plane or helicopter from the region's airports, the main ones being the **"General Carlos Manuel Piar" International Airport** in the city of **Puerto Ordaz** and the **"General Tomás de Heres" Airport** in **Ciudad Bolívar**, both in the State of **Bolívar**. This is one of the most exuberant and attractive destinations located in the **Kamarata Valley** within the **Canaima National Park**.
