Hello fellow Splinterlanders, brawl fanatics and other mad creatures!

We are the:

We are part of a larger German SPL gaming community, the Legendary Dragons, with 14 guilds brawling in various tiers. Our leading guilds, the Legendary Dragons and the Legendary Wyverns play in tier 4 and rank in the top 20. The Legendary Dragon Babies are currently playing in tier 2 and are ranked #134. Here is our Brawl Report #166!

We had another good brawl, finishing second behind Burning Mad #104, who was our main contender. The other big fish in the pond was Crypto Friends Forever #167, who finished fourth.

Our brawlers were leading the scoreboard in the arena for at least 24 hours until shortly before the end. About 2 hours before close, the winning guild came and submitted all its teams at once. That didn't look like human action to me! Be that as it may, we were happy with second place and a respectable 78% winrate (72 wins from 92 bouts). The spoils were a tad over 3k Merits and around 22 SPS per player.

We are doing well with our new guild strategy to always make sure to fill all frays. Our lead introduced fixed fray allocations with designated back-ups and our first brawl prep under new management went very smoothly. We still need to improve our result stats, in order to justify returning to tier three towards the end of the year. After this brawl, our guild ranking stood at #177, which has dropped recently after a couple of senior players left the guild.

Congratulations to all our brawlers for the good results, once again! We had above average stats across the board and a special mention goes to our freshly baked lead, golddiggernrw, for scoring a 8:0 clean sweep! Our newbie, thehockeyfan-at, did well again, too!

My brawl stats were a clean sweep, too. I was happy with the stats but it would be more exciting if there were more battles on GF bronze frays. It will probably get more competitive again after the summer holidays.

I had enough merits for one gladiator pack this time.

Nothing spectacular here today, although Ajax Lightfoot got his 14th BCX to get to level three and he is worth taking a quick look:

Ajax Lightfoot is a great card for low mana battles, especially Little League. He has fantastic speed, making him a deadly first striker. Now at level 3, I might just keep him in mind for ranked battles in Gold League, where fast archers with higher firepower play an increasingly important strategic role. Going from 2 to 3 range can make a huge difference in many types of gameplay. With additional abilities through various rulesets and especially at level 4 with Dodge, this little darling can be a lethal secret weapon to change the outcome of a battle in a flash.

In the BATTLE-OF-THE-DAY segment, we have a 99 mana Life Battle with the rulesets Thorns, Back To Basics and Scattershot. The available splinters are white, purple and gold.

This is a great combination of rulesets! With so much mana to work with, it is possible to put together the best possible team to suit these battle conditions. Back To Basics together with Scattershot means that melee monsters can only attack from the first position, while magic and range monsters can spit fire all over the park at will. The third ruleset, Thorns, both inhibits and empowers meelee monsters.

My strategy for this battle, while considering a somewhat limited choice of GF cards (my collection is still growing), was as follows: two big fat meelee tanks to lead the pack, followed by mostly magic monsters and Supply Runner at the back to complete the hand. Franz Ruffmane was there to provide extra shield support and allow the option to bring a second Gladiator. I would usually opt for high speed and increased fire power, but I didn't have particularly great options, as I prefer not to rent cards for my brawls and work with what I have instead. Not renting cards for brawls also keeps me focused on my gladiators.

Here is the battle:

round 1.jpg

My opponent fielded a pretty good team, nerfing my magic attack capabilities with Thaddius Brood and shielding his team with Arkemis the Bear. He also opted for two meelee monsters at the front and increased magic attack. This was going to be a close call!

The opening round played out evenly, with everyone throwing their weight around indiscriminantely with Scattershot, while the frontline tanks lashed out at each other, while getting caught up in Thorns. Arkemis the Bear was lucky to survive the initial onslaught and the overall round points went to my team.

Arkemis went first thing, followed by more scattered fire and another Thorns duel at the front. It became noticeable, that there was a bit of luck involved here: my scattershots hit the right targets, while the opponent's shots didn't inflict significant damage. Most monsters were still in the field and the real showdown was to come in round 3.

The fight was on! Cursed Windeku went first, succumbing to Thorns, while the Imperial Knight was wiped out by magic. Drybone Barbarian then came to the front to clean up Magi of Chaos.

The last round was an anti-climax. The dominoes fell quickly, leaving Dhampir Stalker at the front with his pant down.

It was a lucky battle with Scattershot working to my advantage, while Captain Katie didn't get a single scalp.

brawler of the day.jpg

Drybone Barbarian made 2 kills today and it is not always a Gladiator, who does all the hard work and gets all the glory.

My regular foil Barbarian is currently at level 5, where he has Heal. This is a significant ability for a tank and his overall stats in silver are already quite impressive. I would like him to reach gold level, where he as increased speed to make him even more effective. I am patiently waiting for quite a few soulbound cards to level up or to pull GFs for GF fray brawls.

I hope you enjoyed today's brawl report!
