Pelacor Mercenary has One of the Best Win Rates in Splinterlands. So Why is It That Splinterlands Players Think He's a Bum?

He can fly, he has a shield and he can heal but for some reason old Pelacor Mercenary gets the silent treatment from most players. You can use him in the earthquake ruleset without a single thought but players tend to go for the giant wasp instead. To top it all off Pelacor Mercenary is one of the cheapest cards in the game. 1 cent per BCX. He is a common card so you can use him as level 5 in bronze which gives you quite a bit of bang for your buck. You can even max this guy out for $4. If anyone is moaning about Splinterlands being too expensive then here is your argument. Pelacor is a Ferrari at Fiat prices. At level 5 he has a 3 attack and is quite fast for a tank. When you included flying that is some good stats.

So why isn't our Mercanery used more in the game seeing that he is quite good.

Pelacor reminds me of a homeless bum who was once a rich aristocrat that fell upon hard times. He got mixed up with the reward pack gang and now people consider him an inferior option.
This post wants to fight the corner of poor old Pelacor and explain to people that there is life in the old dog yet.

  • There is the snobbery end of it first of all. This card is 1 cent so it must not be any good. I thought that myself at first but after using him in the Earthquake ruleset it changed my mind.

  • The increase in magic use is also a reason. Magic avoids the shield so Earth players rather use tanks with void such as Unicorn and Flesh Golem.

  • At max level he only offers a retaliate. The other tanks at max level offer more.

The card is a reward card so you see it quite often. Chances are you after pulling around 60 of these bad boys anyway to combine them up to level 5. Pelacor offers you heal at level 6 which is handy and the main reason why people tend to pick Flesh Golem. He also offers retaliate like I said earlier at max level. Not bad stats for a 7 mana.

So with the above in mind , try this guy out and see how you get on. I am starting to use him more and more and you cannot under estimate the flying ability. Sometimes he is ducking and weaving more than Scotty Pippen in his hay day. I do find his shield protects against that first big tank hit also where the likes of Rexxy (who noone ever uses anymore) , Wasp, Flesh Golem could get caught out. So the next time you are scrolling over this guy, spare a thought for him and give him the shout. Throw him in and see how you get on. You may not be as disappointed as you expect.
