Splinterlands Card Feature: Silvershield Warrior

The Silvershield Warrior is one of these cards in my deck that I collect and level up just because it is there. I've never really found a decent use for the card apart from when I was much smaller and lower down in the tiers. Nowadays, the Silvershield Warrior is completely outclassed by other Life Splinter cards in my deck, which makes him a very underpowered card to play. There is some advantage to playing him when there are Little League (the Silvershield Warrior is only 4 mana to field) and Melee only battle conditions in play... but apart from that, he is using up a valuable team position that is better used by a more powerful monster.

Still, that is what these card features are all about... putting us out of our comfort zone and encouraging us to use some cards that we wouldn't ordinarily play. So, with this in mind, I started to experiment with the Silvershield Warrior. The obvious position that the Warrior plays is in the second battle slot, to utilise the Reach skill that comes with having a long pointy stick as your weapon of choice.

The Battle

Although this battle didn't have the Little League or Melee only battle conditions, I thought I would give the Silvershield Warrior a run as it was a Weak Magic battle. This means that there was some definite advantage to playing the armour heavy Life-Splinter as the effects of the Magic damage monsters was greatly minimised.

Leading up the team was the armour heavy Silvershield Paladin which picked up more amour from the Life Summoner and the Divine Healer. Combined with the Physical damage resistance, this would lead to a lead tank that should be able absorb quite a hefty amount of damage.

Next up was the featured Silvershield Warrior, in the regular second position. Now, the purpose of the Silvershield Warrior is less to cause high amounts of damage, but more to strip the armour from opposing monsters. In the third position, is the first of my damage dealers... the Silvershield Assassin, with the mission to deplete the enemy team from the rear.

Next up, the survival portion of the team, with the Armoursmith being extra effective in this Weak Magic battle condition. Meanwhile, the Divine Healer gives everyone a little bit of extra armour as well, in addition to the vital healing skill.

Lastly, the ever present Peacebringer. This ranged attack monster is one of the must have cards for the Life Splinter, high damage, low mana cost... there is nothing to not like about this guy... unless you happen to have a deck of Legendaries (I don't...).

The opposing team is a strange mix of strong, decently leveled monsters... and a string of level 1 monsters?!??!?... Weird... the rear end should be easy prey for the Silvershield Assassin, but I will need the Silvershield Paladin to hold out long enough for the Assassin to finish their job.

The first round shows the path of the rest of the battle... the Silvershield Assassin makes short work of the rear monster, whilst the Silvershield Paladin (with the assistance of the Armoursmith and the Divine Healer) is able to absorb the damage from the higher level monsters on the opposing team.

The rest of the battle follows the same formula... the higher level monsters are whittled away by the combination of the Silvershield Paladin, Warrior and Peacebringer. Meanwhile, the rear of the enemy formation is devestated by the Silvershield Assassin. It ends up being no contest...

Conclusion

In this particular featured battle, there was a win for the Life Splinter fielding the Silvershield Warrior. However, this was mostly due to the efforts of the other monsters and much less through the genius of fielding the Silvershield Warrior.

I'm afraid that in the efforts to capture a decent battle for this card feature, I was never really able to find a battle which set the Silvershield Warrior in a good light. In all the battles, the contribution from the Warrior was minimal whilst occupying a vital position slot in the battle team. More often than not, the battle would be carried by the rest of the team...so, more like fighting a battle with an intentional team member pulling as dead weight.

After these experimental battles, I'm afraid that my initial impressions of the Silvershield Warrior remains the same. Good at lower level battles when your deck isn't really strong... but a card that rapidly gets outclassed by other monsters.
