Hi everyone! It's time for the a weekly battle challenge, and the challenge for this week is Cursed Windeku.

About the Monster

Cursed Windeku
Cursed Windeku is a rare card with high health (9) and the Thorns ability at level 1. It gets the Heal ability from level 5 and the Slow ability at level 8. I’m using the level 2 version of the card which has a higher health of 10. It's Thorns ability and high health makes it a great tank to use in most battles.

Ruleset

Heavy Hitters: All Monsters have the Knock Out ability
Close Range: Ranged attacks may be used in the first position in battle

PositionNameDescription
1Cursed WindekuIt has 2 Melee attack, 10 Health and the Thorns ability, which makes it great as the main tank. .
2UraeusI used it for the Sneak ability, to attack the backline while the Cursed Windeku tanks the front.
3Corpse FiendA 0 mana legendary card to take the first damage if the opponent also employs a backline attack strategy.

Strategy

The Heavy Hitters ruleset was pretty much irrelevant, as the low mana battle meant that it was difficult to place in a card with the Stun ability. The Close Range ruleset meant that Ranged cards could be used to good effect as they could be used in position 1.

However, I sort of ignored the rulesets as I didn't have enough good Ranged attack cards with low mana cost. Instead, I opted for a backline attack strategy to take out the backline cards first. I was hoping to take out the ranged cards first if opponent does use ranged cards for his deck.

I would say that this was a close fight. I was also fortunate that my Uraeus took out both the ranged cards in 2 rounds without missing, and it went down with my Corpse Fiend being the last card standing. I think the positioning was important here too. If the Chaos Agent was placed in the last position, I might have lost. The Cursed Windeku was also fairly critical to winning this, as it helped take out the Crypt Beetle much faster with the reflect damage from Thorns.

Thoughts on the card

I think that Curse Windeku is a great card to have, with it's Thorns ability. It pairs well with Thaddius Brood to reflect Melee damage and reduce Magic damage, making it great tank that is a little more susceptible to Ranged damage. It also works well with rulesets like Armored Up and Super Sneak (when placed in the last position), making it an interesting option for the battle.
