Hi everyone! It's time for the a weekly battle challenge, and the challenge for this week is the Gem Meteor.

About the Monster

Gem Meteor
Gem Meteor is an epic Neutral card with 5 health, 4 speed and only 1 Ranged attack, with the Scattershot ability. It also gets the Piercing ability at level 5 and a good Ranged attack of 4 at its maximum level of 6. I’m using the level 1 version of the card.

Ruleset

Equalizer: The initial health of all the Monsters is equal to that of the Monster on either team with the highest base health
Counterspell: All Monsters have the Magic Reflect ability
Only the Life, Death and Dragon Splinters can be used
Mana Cap: 27

PositionNameDescription
1Pelacor ConjurerIt is the main tank with its high speed of 4 and Flying ability, and hopefully get some opponent misses.
2VulguineIt starts off with a higher health with this ruleset and gains a health with each Monster's death with its Scavenger ability.
3Time MageIts main purpose is to slow the opponent down, and I think it's a critical card even though it's disadvantaged by the Magic Reflect ruleset.
4Gem MeteorIt has the Scattershot ability and I was trying to have some Monsters randomly damaged while the other cards work on the first position.
5Venari CrystalsmithIt’s main purpose is to heal whoever was in the first position and do some damage too.
6Pelacor ArbalestIt is the main damage dealer in the deck with its Double Strike ability and 3 damage.

Strategy

The Equalizer ruleset meant that all cards in the deck will start with the same amount of health. Monsters with abilities like Opportunity will attack the first Monster first. With the fairly low mana cap of 27, I opted for the low cost Pelacor Conjurer as the main tank. And the Counterspell ruleset also meant that the Magic Monsters were at a disadvantaged. The strategy here was to choose Monsters with high damage with low health, as the rule set will bring up their health, and avoid Monsters with Magic attack. I also used the Venari Crystalsmith to heal the first position and Gem Meteor for random damage to the backline. I used Time Mage even though it uses Magic attack as it slows the opponent down, which in turns reduces their attack accuracy.

The opponent had Repair and Triage cards in his deck. The Triage ability from his Spirit Hoarder sort of rendered my Gem Meteors attacks useless and the damage were mostly healed. I was lucky that the Spirit Hoarder was in position 2 and I was able to take it down once I disposed the tank. The Slow ability from the Time Mage was also fairly effective, as the Pelacor Conjurer dodged a number of attacks. I would probably have lost if those dodges didn't take place.

Thoughts on the card

I rarely use the Gem Meteor as it’s attack is rather weak and its attacks are very random. While it wasn't so effective in this ruleset, it would work best with the Blast ruleset, as it has a good chance to damage up to 3 cards with its attack. I think that the Blast ruleset is where I might try using it again.
