Hi everyone! It's time for the a weekly battle challenge, and the challenge for this week is the Soul Strangler.
About the Monster
Soul Strangler
Soul Strangler is a rare low cost card with low health, low speed but a fairly decent ranged attack. It only gains the Poison ability at level 10. It gets 4 attack by level 6, but is still pretty vulnerable with its low health. The version I'm using is the level 1 one.
Ruleset
Heavy Hitters: All Monsters have the Knock Out ability
Only the Fire, Water, Death and Dragon Splinters can be used
Mana Cap: 21
Format: Modern
Cards & Line Up
Summoner: Thaddius Brood - This reduces the health of the opponents deck and also reduces any magic attack damage.
Position | Name | Description |
---|---|---|
1 | Chaos Agent | It has the Dodge ability which hopefully helps me avoid some damage. |
2 | Shadowy Presence | It's 1 mana and has 4 health. It's used to take the initial damage while my damage dealers to take out the opponents Monsters. |
3 | Riftwing | This is actually the main tank. It's placed in position 3 to build up its health from Monster deaths with its Scavenger ability. |
4 | Silent Sha-vi | It's one of the main damage dealers, and hits the opponent from the back with its sneak. |
5 | Soul Strangler | Placed in the second last position, it does decent damage and the second damage dealer. |
6 | Uraeus | It's used in combination with Silent Sha-vi to take out Monsters in the last position, with its Sneak ability. |
Strategy
The ruleset has Explosive Weaponry and I didn't want to waste the low health cards, and so they were placed in the earlier positions. The strategy was to use the Chaos Agent and Shadowy Presence to take the initial damage, so that the health of Riftwing can be built up to tank the opponent. The Silent Sha-vi and Uraeus are used to concentrate their attacks from the backline, and Soul Strangler will do some damage to the tank. I think my strategy worked pretty well, as I took out the opponents entire backline in the first round. After that, it wasn't too difficult taking out the Living Lava since I still had three Monsters with 2 or more attack power.
Thoughts on the card
The Soul Strangler is one of my go-to Chaos Legion card for the Death Splinter for low mana fights. It costs only 3 mana but has a decent attack of 2. It's especially useful in the Little League ruleset.
