SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge! REGAL PERYTON

[Source]

Hi everyone! It's time for the a weekly battle challenge, and the challenge for this week is Regal Peryton.

About the Monster

Regal Peryton
Regal Peryton is a rare card with a decent amount of health (6), attacks fast with a speed of 5, and has the Flying ability at level 1. While it doesn't get any new abilities as it levels up, a maxed out version will get 3 Magic Attack, 7 Speed and 8 Health. I’m using a level 2 version of the card with a Speed of 6.

Ruleset

Earthquake: Non-flying Monsters take 2 Melee damage at the end of each round
Reverse Speed: Monsters with the slowest speed attack first and have the highest chance of evading attacks
Only the Fire, Water, Earth and Dragon Splinters can be used
Mana Cap: 24
Format: Modern

PositionNameDescription
1Fungus FiendIt's in first position to take the first damage, since it won't survive beyond round 1 in this ruleset.
2Hill GiantIt has fairly high health (7), and is used as the main tank.
3Vampire BatIt's here as the secondary tank, as it has the flying ability is not affected by the Earthquake ruleset.
4Goblin PsychicIt has fairly high Magic attack (2+1) and can heal the tank to let the tank last a little longer. It will also be one of the first to attack with the Reverse Speed ruleset.
5Spirit HoarderIt has the Triage ability to heal backline Monsters and improves survivability for the other Monsters in the deck with the Earthquake ruleset.
6Regal PerytonIt's in the last position because it's high speed makes it the slowest and is not affected by the Earthquake ruleset.

Strategy

The Earthquake ruleset meant that most cards in the deck should have the Flying ability or have the Shield ability (reduces Earthquake damage to 1) to take advantage of the ruleset. For the Modern format, the Death and Dragon splinters have the most cards with the Flying ability. Unfortunately, the Death Splinter is not usable in this battle and the flying Dragons card tend to require high mana cost to cast. As such, my strategy was to use a mix of cards with the Flying ability and the Healing ability to improve my survivability in this ruleset. The Earth Splinter Magic cards are also generally slow, which is advantageous in the Reverse Speed ruleset.

The opponent used the Earth Splinter as well, and employed the Shield and Flying ability strategy. Luckily for me, my Magic heavy attacks punched through to take the Mycelic Infantry down relatively fast. Regal Peryton was key in this strategy, being in the last position and the remaining standing card in the end.

Thoughts on the card

Regal Peryton is one of the Earth Splinter cards that I like to use. It has a very good chance of evading Melee and Ranged attacks with its high speed and Flying ability. It also pairs well with Obsidian to give it an added punch in its attack.
