Hi everyone! It's time for the a weekly battle challenge, and the challenge for this week is Dragons. For this challenge, I’m using Djinn Chwala.
About the Monsters
Djinn Chwala
Djinn Chwala is a legendary card which is great at level 1 with high Health (9) and Shield (5) and has the Thorns ability, which deals 2 damage to Melee monsters that attack it. It gets the Enrage ability from level 4 and True Strike at level 6. I’m using the level 2 version which gets an additional attack.
Ruleset
Melee Mayhem: Melee attack Monsters can attack from any position
Only the Fire, Water, Death and Dragon Splinters can be used
Mana Cap: 30
Cards & Line Up

Position | Name | Description |
---|---|---|
1 | Djinn Chwala | It has has 9 Health, 5 Shield and the Thorns ability against melee attacks. It’s a great card against Melee monsters and can last quite a bit as a tank. It's unfortunate that thorns is of no use here. |
2 | Cursed Windeku | It has the 10 Health and has the Thorns ability too (again of no use it this ruleset. it’s main purpose the secondary tank, plus it can attack with the Melee Mayhem ruleset. |
3 | Corpse Field | It’s 0 mana and is used here to make sure all my slots are filled up. On the plus side, it can attack too! |
4 | Weirding Warrior | It has only 1 attack and fairly low cost. I wanted to make use of its Shatter ability. Then I remembered that no abilities can be used in this ruleset! |
5 | Soul Stranger | It's low cost (3 mana), and has 2 attack. Great here because I already used 21 mana for Djinn Chwala, Cursed Windeku and Dhampir Stalker (I chose those cards first). |
6 | Dhampir Stalker | A card with high damage (3), which will hopefully help kill off the tank fast. |
Strategy
The ruleset for Back to Basics meant that no skills could be used. As such, the obvious strategy would be using a Magic or Ranged deck of cards. Generally, I prefer Magic over range in such a situation because Ranged cards can't attack once they get to the first position. However, in this case, both Life and Earth splinters which are strong in Ranged and Magic attacks (for Chaos Legion cards at least) are unusable.
However, the other ruleset here which is Melee Mayhem also meant that Melee monsters can attack too. Hence, I opted for 2 high health tanks and use mostly Ranged monsters to deal out damage. I was glad my strategy worked as the opponent had a pretty mean Magic deck, with Alric Stormbringer to boost the deck with an additional Magic attack. Djinn Chwala managed to last beyond round 1 too!
Thoughts on the card
I love Dragons as there are so many great Dragon cards. However, they are usually better in high mana battles as they usually have high mana costs.
