I knew it was somewhere around this time. Somewhere in September but I don't recall exactly when it was, but I do remember where it was. But when I saw the badge made by the lovely Arcange coming in this morning, I realized this has been a loooong time already.
5 Years of Hive time on the blockchain, that is some reason to celebrate!
And it were some sweet 5 years to be writing in honestly, because a lot has happened to the chain in general, to blockchains in general, and to me in general and that is mostly the topics of my writings. But how it started?
Back to day 1, the onboarding
The reason why I started Hive-ing initially was because of some Dutch girls from another blogging platform which I had only recently started just before. I was a terrible writer, and my best scores were for sure taking images from someone else while leaving no credits for them. Not my finest hours!
Then the hurricane came while I was living on the island of Sint Martin and shit broke for a good one. I spent most of my time afterwards in a hotel with no windows and broken sliding doors with wet sheets and in the hospital while also sleeping there. Sleeping in the hospital was awesome, because it was dry, nice, even some AC from the generator and also having some internet because the rest of the telephone lines were broken and only every now and then there would be a signal, but nearly not enough for scrolling around.

So one night while I was sleeping there I was in the office trying to onboard myself to Hive and it was one of those things where you thought about 'I hope this goes through, because I really want this and don't want to be blocked'
But onboarding was not easy when you were having connection issues. I had to press the 'send code' button for an SMS (is this still the deal with sms?), changes clothes from my OR clothes to normal ones, run outside and pray for a connection good enough to receive the text. After receiving the text running back inside, change into green again, run to the computer and give in the code from the text.
Needles to say the code expired a couple of times and I did this whole process of running in and out like 5 times. And every time I got more worried that I would be blocked or something, because at that time Hive felt a bit elite to me.
Because after the giving in of the code, that is when the big waiting started if you would become approved as a user. And that approval took a couple of days at least, maybe even longer
I finally was able to start!
So all of my first blogs were all about the hurricane and everything around it and my intro blog got a whopping $0.31 cents. I learned quickly about writing about if you would place a blog in multiple locations that originalworks would haunt you, (the weird thing now is that when you look at the snap in that blog it has a photobucket thing on there, which is annoying because this is my damn picture but maybe I hosted it for a reason back then?)
For a while I was a decent member of the $0.00 payout club but honestly I didn't care because I just liked writing about all the hurricane stuff or getting everything back to normal. That is when blogging got integrated into my system I guess.
The payouts were as excected I would say. Sometimes a bit, sometimes a bit less and it was always fine to me. I was member of some discord groups and did some 'present your post' kind of things back then. Hours and hours of discording were in there.
The journey
After that I moved a couple of times to some different countries and was travelling a lot for a while. Hive (steem whatever) was the perfect spot to share all of these journeys with. I learned a lot about blockchains and crypto in general, which is crazy because...Why would someone who has nothing to do with this want to even know all of these things.
I attended Hivefest in Krakow, Bangkok and this year in Amsterdam and still try to post on the daily. I am still happy with my rewards and the amount of knowledge that I still receive from just reading an writing along. I'm super happy Hivefest gave another mental impulse to reply a bit more by others again, admittingly I got a bit more lazy with that.
After I had just started Hiveing the top of the bullmarket was in 2017 and we were all super siked about everything. Last November 2021 another bullrun peak passed by. The endless market was here in 2018 and it feels like this is here again.
But the reality is with Hive you never really have to care about that. You just grind and do what you do and then see what pops up. The most interesting words were at Hivefest last week
'No one talked about the price of Hive'
And that is true, because everyone is just working and building and the price feels irrelevant. I am curious where we will be in 5 years from now.
