ENGLISH

Do good without looking to whom

A tyrant monarch will discover how noble his people and human solidarity can be when they least expect it.

The summer heat presses with all its strength, suffocating the powerful man who travels inside the stagecoach in this morning of radiant sunshine and hot wind full of dust, which burns when rubbing against the skin as if the air had its origin in hell itself. Lord Belfort dries his sweaty face with a white handkerchief of fine imported cloth, looking with contempt as it is stained clay-colored by the large amount of dirt on the road, which rises after the hurried passage of his retinue on the way back from the country house where he was on vacation.

Again, today he will resume his duties as regent of the castle, having to traverse the only path built for carriages, which through the slums of the city and the market, which causes him particular displeasure, being forced to endure, according to his thoughts, the stench of the poor that the subjects of the kingdom sweat, whom he simply regards as inferior, indeed, he barely considers them human, so he instructs his coachman and escorts to ride as fast as possible, no matter who crosses them, so as not to be more than necessary in the crowd.

However, despite the contempt of their Lord, the inhabitants of this peasant community, feel great encouragement to see the Royal retinue pass through their lands, greeting and applauding with joy, ignoring even who is the one who goes inside, since they have never seen in person the Lord of the castle, only some pictures painted in the main dependencies of the government allow them to get an idea that the figure of their regent. According to the orders received, the caravan advances at full speed between the banks of the region, moving away from the last village for miles before reaching the capital, in the distance, begins to be seen the dark silhouette of the fortification that appears imposing on the highest hill, hidden in a cloud of steam and dust typical of this time of the year.

Suddenly, a fortuitous event of destiny places a large rattlesnake ready to attack in the middle of the road, causing the horses to panic and the driver to completely lose control of the stagecoach, which inevitably overturns in a spectacular accident, The stagecoach inevitably overturned in a spectacular accident, turning over many times and killing all its occupants, except for the wealthy man who was traveling inside, leaving him unconscious, with many bruises and a leg trapped under the weight of the structure, debating between life and death at the bottom of a ravine.

A couple of hours later, a boy from the village —who, by the way, was almost run over by the caravan due to its high speed, when it crossed the market— finds the place where the events occurred, looking with astonishment at a grotesque scene full of remains of the carriage and bodies of the royal escorts, Despite the horrifying sight, the peasant checked each of the men to see how he could assist them, until he found the Lord and realized that he was still alive, so he moistened his face with a little water to make him react. When he came to, this dismal and despicable ruler, instead of thanking him for his support, looked at the boy with disgust, beginning to insult him for having touched him, which frightened the young man who ran away, while the trapped man, sorry for what he had done, begged for help, almost convinced that he would be abandoned in the loneliness of that ravine to his fate.

To his surprise, human solidarity has no limits, despite his insults and threats, the peasant did not really flee the place, he only went to seek the support of the villagers, who quickly assisted with crowbars and horses to free the dying man from the rubble, without caring whether he was the regent, nor the things he had done with their high taxes. They simply collaborated as a group to a trapped person just like them, who needed help, thus changing forever the Lord's way of thinking, making him understand that at the hour of death, no matter the power or money, everyone goes through the same path as when the creator brought them to this world.
