ENGLISH VERSION

This story that I wrote accepting the invitation made by Hispaliterario, Solidarity: treasure for peace, is fictitious but it can happen anywhere on this planet, at any time. Solidarity is a gesture of love towards another person or living being, it is helping those in need without thinking about anything else but doing good. Going through difficult moments teaches us that these can be temporary if we are accompanied. It is very sad to feel that loneliness is not only internal, but that we are invisible to the rest of the people.

José arrived there, like many other young people, looking for alternatives for a better quality of life and hoping to help his family. There were his friends waiting for him at the terminal, they had left the country a few months ago and had a place to live and worked selling food on the street like many others. Jose had made a long bus trip, he had only recently made that decision and the memory of his parents and siblings saying goodbye to him in the city where he was born and the good times he had lived there, he carried them in his backpack so as not to forget them. He kept his degree under his arm, he thought he might have the opportunity to get a good job. But things did not go as he thought or as he had dreamed.

Over the years, Jose settled in that place, by the sea, a very different one from the one he knew. It was cold and dark and the fog was his companion almost every day, except in the summer when the beach came alive under the warmth of the sun and welcomed tourists. Those months were very busy at the pier, where José worked. He was a very responsible and friendly person and had earned the appreciation of the fishermen and the people of the community. He composed songs and sang them to the rhythm of his guitar, which helped him with his income.

However, the loneliness and frustration he felt led him to a state of sadness that would not leave him. Even when he communicated with his family and his friends tried to cheer him up, it was as if he was falling into a deep, dark pit, deeper and deeper. And in that state people are very vulnerable.

Jose began a journey through the world of drugs, searching in his mind for the emotions he could not feel in reality. He created another reality that relieved him at times, which made him quit his job and distanced him from his friends. But people who take advantage of the weakness of others have no feelings, much less compassion. When Jose could no longer keep up with the expenses, he began to get into debt...that was very dangerous.

They began to threaten him and he felt afraid, he could not communicate with anyone for fear that they would find him. He did not know where to hide, he was disoriented, in the dark, cold and hungry. He walked along the beach, with his backpack and guitar on his back, and sat down on a tree and asked God to help him. There he sat until dawn. And there Daniel found him.

Daniel is a kind man. He runs a center to help people who have gone through problems, who have not found their path or have strayed from it. There are situations that arise in life that are difficult to overcome. And to that center Daniel took Joseph.

There he stayed for two months recovering from his addiction. Everyone worked in the fields, growing what they needed for food and doing all the chores to keep the place clean and tidy. There Jose met people like him, in whom loneliness and abandonment had led to that black pit and also people released from prison for minor offenses, who found no one waiting for them, they simply forgot them.

At the end of the two months Daniel asked José if he felt strong enough to go out and face his life, but he answered him

I'm still not sure I want to go out, I'm afraid.

It's okay, don't worry, you can stay as long as you feel you need to. We are here to help anyone who needs it. And whenever you want, we can't wait for you to sing us those songs you have started to compose.

José felt very encouraged by this request, singing was like a balm for his soul, a way to drain everything he felt and felt in those moments of darkness. And so in the course of a month, he felt strengthened and returned part of his gratitude to those people who had received him with love and solidarity. In the community church, to the joy of his companions, he sang his songs.

José is waiting at the entrance of the Casa de Ayuda, he is ready to live his life, to look for the paths that will lead him to happiness, to joy, to share his experiences and to help other people, just as they did with him. Before leaving, he wants to thank Daniel, the angel that God put on his path when he heard his plea.

In life there are moments for sadness, but also for happiness, in each of us is the possibility of helping others, sometimes with something as simple as a phrase, with a gesture of love, that can make the difference between living to the fullest or succumbing to the deepest pit.
