ME SALVÓ LA GATA / THE CAT SAVED ME

ENGLISH VERSION

THE CAT SAVED ME

I get along better with books than with cats, but I must admit that Mindi, the house pet, knows how to get me out of my reading for a while so I can spoil her.
Mindi was a stray cat that without much ado became part of the family; she already has a sofa, a food budget and personalized attention; without imagining it, she found a home and even claims with vehement meows the skins of the steaks, the fat of the chicken and the fish tails. Anyway, now we can't push her away because we have learned to give her affection and she has learned to receive it.
But I go back to the beginning, that is, I prefer books, you also learn to love them because reading serves to travel in time, to discover new worlds, to refigure lost times; nothing better than a book because you don't have to buy food or pick up their poop, or water them like plants; that's why at home everyone takes care of their own; the son, of Mindi, my partner, of the plants and me, of the books, and so we have the three wonders that a family should have: books, plants and pets.

Before I continue with books, let me share a very nice anecdote that happened to me with Mindi. I spent a few days with the flu; in the photo you can see my homey look at the time: incipient whiskers and the same beard, I disguised the disheveled look with my beret and the humor with a very disguised grimace on my lips; well, I was on the couch, trying to read an Anthology of Universal Literature, when suddenly the cat approached and stared at me; darn! It was so intense that I couldn't concentrate, and I was rediscovering the origins of written language, I was going through the first forms of writing, traveling through ancient Europe, and I couldn't go on because Mindi's eyes were pulling me out, opening the portal of reality and taking me into her presence:
What do you want," I said to her.
And as all disturbed house cats are bound to do, she didn't speak to me, she frowned and sharpened her gaze.
-If you don't tell me what the fuck you want (I'm being literal, pardon the language) how am I supposed to know.
And as is natural in these cases, he said four or five things, but he did it running over words that I didn't understand.
-If you don't let me read, I promise I'll take away your food budget.
But the blackmail was worse because she became energetic; her fur bristled, her nails sprouted and I even felt her eyes start to shoot up from her stare.
-Damn it, tell me what you want.
Then my mother-in-law came in to ask me to stop mistreating her daughter; but seeing that my wife was not in the office and that I was talking to the cat, she gave me a quizzical look and went out.
Then my wife entered in front of my mother-in-law and that would have been a dangerous situation for me, three demons against one sick reader, if it wasn't that as soon as my wife entered, the cat jumped into my arms and started to look at me with affection (see photo).
My wife returned to her angelic state, but not my mother-in-law who no longer belongs in heaven; and when @elemarg25 asked me what was going on, I told her that I was reading a story to Mindi and that she was understanding me because she was a witch, a human monster who could not find anything to do to entertain herself at home and kept going from son to son, making them get divorced and then dreaming at night that she had fulfilled her dreams.
My wife took a picture of me with Mindi, gave me an anti-flu (which I recognized because it has less diameter than rat poison pills) and then went out to continue watering the plants; my mother-in-law, of course, looked at me and left us alone.

When things calmed down, Mindi spoke naturally and I could understand what she wanted; it was her couch time, so I got up, left it for her and went to continue reading in the bedroom.
