The Devil's Revenge

THE DEVIL WAS SITTING under a tree when a mango fell on his head.
─Perra vaina who would think of planting this tree here?
He was not resting, but sharpening his wickedness and swore that he would take revenge on the one, whose carelessness or intention, dropped the seed to give birth to the mango tree that almost broke a limb with one of its fruits.
─I swear by the men who created me that I will leave no mango of this tree alive; even if I have to delay my business I will devour them all; and then I will go after the one who planted the seed and make him suffer too.
And as he swore and counter-swore, he grabbed a mango, bit into it, sucked the pit, threw it away and gobbled up another.
Half a morning passed and some children arrived with a bag, and the devil, who sometimes makes chivalrous gestures, smiled at them and asked them what they wanted. The children pointed to the bag and the devil filled it, and when they turned around to go home, the devil swallowed them. Minutes later more children arrived and when they did not return home, the mothers went to look for them.
The devil, seeing them beautiful and desperate, changed his appearance, he became a cheerful and singing young man, but they were not looking for the men, but for their children and answered them that the children had not gone to look for mangoes; and it happened that one of the women recognized the bag, took it in her hands and lifted it, then the devil filled it with mangoes and when they turned around, the very bad one devoured them all.
The beast already knew that later the men would go in search of their women and continued eating mangoes; it seemed that he would not run out, but his patience was infinite, and when the men arrived, with machetes and frowns, the devil did not make them wait, he killed them all and when he finished eating the harvest, he went to the village to finish his revenge.
The dogs were frightened, but as they were old, they barked and stayed there. The same thing happened with the grandparents, without saying goodbye they left this world, and when the devil saw that he had finished with the people, he felt tired and out of overconfidence, he lay down to rest and increase his strength to continue with his wickedness.
He was lying down when the hut was lit; the fire quickly reached the roof; the devil knew that they were trying to burn him and in order not to disappoint them, he opened his arms, spreading with his strength all the fire he could until he covered the diameter of the town and all its surroundings.

The news of the burned village was known days later; a man who was returning from far away because he had gone to be cured of a strange ailment in his head, found the ashes in the surroundings; when he went to the center of the village he remembered the houses with the names of their owners. It all seemed strange to him, but when he reached his house, which was the one situated in the whole center of the village, he found it untouched; as if the fire had died in the yard of the house.
When he entered, everything was in its place, only some goat's feet hanging over the stove warned him that something had happened.
